I have just begun shooting my film on RED and through unforeseen circumstances, I have run into the possibility that I will not be able to complete it on this camera.

Do I have options as far as 'mixing' RED footage with another HD camera (such as the HVX200)? I would hate to have to start shooting from scratch again, but that might be my only option.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The HVX200 ............is an option. But as is life, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Wait for the Scarlet. :)

Hi,

"Such as the HVX 200" that's the funniest post I have seen in a long time.

If you use the HVX with a 35mm adaptor - like an M2, you can at least achieve a similar depth of field. In attempting to merge the two types of footage, you are going to have to "dumb" down the Red footage - blow out the highlights, soften the focus a little, etc.. I've had to do this in the past and I have succeeded. Unfortunately, this circumstance is one where the adage "lowest common denominator" is appropriate.

Best of luck.

Nick.

the EX1 with a 35mm adapter might be another option...

My guess is that you don't really want to change platform, but if you have to, you have to.

In that case, do all wide and detailed shots + all vfx shots on RED and the rest on whatever else you can use. If you have the option to shoot EX1 with a 35mm PL adapter and output/record via HD-SDI, you could very well pull this off, that is if you plan for it and have a good post house. I think we all understand that this is NOT a situation you would want under any circumstances... and it resembles flamebait, but I can see situations where circumstanses change in a dramatic way...

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Ideally I'd like to enter this film into festivals, so starting over again would be the safest bet, albeit a painful one.
