Hey all,

I'm going to be talking to my Avid supplier this week about upgrading my system. Finally making the leap to Media Composer. Since I'll be getting my Red sometime in November, what else should I be looking at in terms of upgrades. Is Nitris the system I should be looking at?

For background, I'm a one man show at this point. An independant film producer/director/editor, I've done all the editing for the films we've produced so far, as well as handled all the ingest and output. I know that with the SDK out, AVID will eventually support some all digital workflow for the Red and I'm trying to position myself with my limited budget further along down a good path. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a new system called Final Cut Pro which is quite good too

When I've used FCP I didn't like it. I like Avid, that's why I asked about Avid..on the Avid forum subsection.

If you are doing it all, you may want to look at Symphony and Nitris DX combo. This gives you more finishing options. If money prevents that, then yes, the next best thing would be Media Composer and Nitris combo.

Some like Avid, some like FCS. Hell, I hear there are those that like Premiere. Doesn't matter what you use - only matters you know the craft of editing (this doesn't mean you know how to use the software, but actually the "craft" of editing).

I learned splicing film, then learned NLE on Avid. FCP 2 changed everything for me and I jumped on the Apple cart.

Symphony Nitris DX doesn't do 2k/4k conform. You'll need Avid DS for that. You may want to consider software only version of DS (DS Assist Station). It is useful for certain situations.
