I'm looking into a budget-priced crane/jib to use with the RED. I've heard wonderful things about Dykortech's AdvantaJib Lite, but it apparently maxes out at 10-15 lbs, which will be no good with lens, battery, storage, etc. Another top contender is the EZ FX Jib. Can anyone share their experiences and/or make a recommendation? Thanks!

I own some EZ FX Jibs and I can only recommend them. Very stable and smooth. No problems at all.

Thanks, Dude. I will need to get a new, sturdier tripod that will support both jib and camera. Would you also recommend EZ FX's sticks?

I think the Jimmy Jib lite may be the ideal solution for a moderately loaded red. Although some of the ads say 15 pounds is the load limit, others say 20. A very reputable jimmy jib owner/opeator I've worked with before was telling me he's seen guys put 30 pound betacams on it before without major modifications . Apparently, the stated load limit has more to do with leveling issues between the head and the arm than it does with the overall strength of the arm.
If anyone has further input, or first-hand knowledge, I'd welcomeit myself.

Yeah, I also have an EZ FX JibPod. It's ok for the price. But maybe today I would go for some heavy duty Bogen/Manfrotto legs or the EZ FX Pedestal.
BTW: Wrong forum - some moderator please move this to off topic. :excl:

I've used the AdvantaJib and AdvantaJib Lite on many shoots. As far as I'm concerned they have that crane rated much lower then they need to. I'm planning on using both their cranes for the Red. I've used many, many cranes over my career and these are amazing units even for double the price. I know they are ar NAB right now, but no idea where they are located. I've posted a number of favorable posts on this crane simply because I rally like this unit and they are great people to deal with.
If you are worried about weight though, you can also run cables to the center of the crane's fulcrum where you could station your battery and storage.
Cheers,

Dykortech is supposedly making a heavier head. My HVX/M2/Nikkor 55mm 1,2, Remote focus motor+receiver+batteries makes the Advantajib difficult to control tilt

We use the EZFX with Varizoom MC100 for cameras up to 20lbs. Very stable on the pedestal.
You can see how the jib performs starting this weekend on the premier of The Real Deal on TLC. We used two of them with the MC100 heads under CA F350s on all nine episodes.

I use the EZFX jib with Oconnor Cine HD sticks (150mm) and an Oconnor 2060HD Fluid Head. EZFX provides a good adaptor for the 150mm.
