anyone use ever use this lens?I'm thinking about buying one for $299 which I'd think would be a good price if the optics and mechanics are decent.

any advice?

The optics are not bad but not up to the modern 24-70 2.8 Nikkor or Canon L.
It's also not as robust mechanically.

Most reviews Ive read on that lens say it has a "soft focus" effect wide open, and it doesnt get sharp until f5.6. But The photo's I have seen taken with it look fine, seems like a good buy for your dslr.

EDIT: I wouldnt put this on your RED however, the focusing is very sloppy and plasticy. Like I said, I havent used this specific tamron lens. but I have used other tamron lenses made around the same time and found the mechanics not anywhere near canon/nikon pro lenses.
