Hi guys, im having some issues with exporting DPXs from AE. I've tried to follow explanations on what settings regarding Color Profile Converter and the projects working color space but cant get an export to look vaguely right.

Ive exported a 2K DPX from RedCine using Rec709 and PDlog 675.

Any idea what settings I need to be using in After Effects to work with these DPXs and also what settings i need to export the DPXs back out?

I want to be able to take the outputted DPXs into Color (which has its own issues as AE exports all DPXs as .cin which color doesnt accept - i have to rename all the files to be .dpx for them to be read!)

The image im getting out of AE is very bright and some elements look very high contrast whilst others are washed out.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Keith

I think your problems are coming from doing two different color space outputs, rec709 and PDlog675. Try using the REDLog colorspace, and then use the "cineon converter" plugin within AE. If you use Shake use the Log/Lin conversion node. Below is a sample node for Shake to convert REDlog to linear space. Plaster City provided this to us on a recent film that was shot on RED. As for the .dpx output, this can be setup as a custom output. Hope this helps

LogLin7 = LogLin(0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 150, rBlack, rBlack, 1023, rWhite,
rWhite, 0.53, rNGamma, rNGamma, 1, rDGamma, rDGamma, 0, rSoftClip,
rSoftClip);

// User Interface settings

SetKey(
"nodeView.LogLin7.t", "0",
"nodeView.LogLin7.x", "2219.25",
"nodeView.LogLin7.y", "-191.25"
);

I found this article helpful for ae and dpx/cineon

haha, the creative cow links do not work.
go to CREATIVE COW and then to COW Library : Pete O'Connell.
Great forum to be on.
