Talk with Brook about that, he said, the camera WAS on a SteadyCam at NAB, just a short test, it worked fine he said. The weight, it's just a thought together with Brook: about 14 to 16 pounds with the new REDzoom.

Yeah the Red Zoom is a winner on this front. Strapping some of Cooke or Angenieux's larger and affordable 2nd hand zooms on it would double the weight. The 18-50mm looks even smaller and lighter than the Cooke 15-40mm CXX, plus it'll have the /i capabilities to match. Very exciting.

hi goffb
nice system..how come tiffen didn't sue the cr*p out of actionproducts? licensed tech or didn't tiffen prolong their patents - just curious :turned:

By the way I'm not making the claim it'll be as good as the 15-40mm, that's T2 so a bit faster, also until someone uses it we won't know about the quality of this lens compared to others. I'm simply talking about size and weight.

It would be cool if RED made camera stabilization systems for RED One...
Just a thought...and no, I don't have any knowledge of such a project.

Hi
Most of the "older" steadicam patents have expired. And for now tiffen only has patents on there new arms. I was however able to create a springarm that works simular to the iso-elastic one from tiffen, but without messing with there patents - and ours is stronger and can jib over a greater range:tongue:
PS: and it's got a nice "RED" look to it:red_bandana:

I carried a prototype with all of the accessories [full production pack minus handles, EVF, LCD, drive, battery, 18-50] and operated it handheld for about 20-30 minutes. It feels like an Arricam LT with a hot mag.
Matt's gonna chew out a bunch of metal before she ships, too.

Anyone ever used the Glidecam V20? As a starter rig with a max of 26lbs it looks like it could be a good rig for using with a RedOne. At $3700 on BH or $4200 with monitor it's not exactly a bad price.

I've been eyeing that one myself. Maybe this would make for a good thread on its own...

Reviews of it and the V16 make it sound pretty good. Seems to offer most of the high end's offerings, some people mention altering it slightly such as adding hand knobs instead of adjusting with a wrench and so on, but these seem like small cosmetic issues remedied at your local hardware store.

does "chew out a bunch of metal" mean make it lighter?

Matt basically said that they will boar out the shoulder plate a bit more as well as a few other parts. If any of you picked up the Red rail cage setup at NAB, expect the shipping version to be not much lighter than it was.
I really liked the weight of the rig, I think that a rig that is too light kills hand held operating and creates an overly shaky shot. My guess.....the whole rig with lens and all will weigh anywhere from 25-30 lbs.

Yes, it means make it lighter.
We had the camera with shoulder pad and such [think 20lbs] on the Archer and some other higher-end Steadicam today... it worked great. The camera + lens + mattebox + onboard flash media + Steadicam battery + zoom motor should be fine for a Flyer.
We were calling the Archer the "RED Steadicam"

Yes, please make Red, lighter, or at least create some brackets where we can mount the battery and drive to the back of the camera directly, and a small mount on top for handle and mic. I lifted the whole cage and rail, and it was 15+ pounds. That's fine if you have a crew. However, I'd like to have a few light brackets (no rail or cage) just to mount to. Thanks.

Don't worry, the accessories you saw aren't the only accessories RED is going to make. Nothing official... it's just a given.

Interesting note on this topic... I saw Garrett Brown leaving the RED booth Tuesday morning after one of the early showings, and happened, just by accident (yeah, right) to stand behind him as he was having a conversation with an associate about RED.
The jist of what he said was that he was thrilled that RED has had the "open input from users philosophy" and had listened to the requests to keep the basic camera light.

Just got home a few hours ago. Couldn't wait to get on reduser.net. I was internet free since Monday. SoI enter NAB and begin looking for the RED booth. BAM! There it was! As I walk up and try to enter. There was a security gaurd  I knew it! I mentioned that it would happen! So I try to enter but the line wraps around the booth all the way down to the end of the building. So I decided to come back early next morning and sprint to the booth. So I do and still have to wait in a 30 minutes in line. We finally get in and Jim introduces the 4k and talks about the movie. I'm going to try to remember what he said. Jim: Hi folks what you are about to see is the RED being put to the test in some extreme weather conditions. Everything from dollies, tripods, cranes and even mounted to a helicopter. This short was shot in two days with no time for retakes. We ask that no one videotape the screen and upload the footage on youtube. If you do, we will beat you, throw you out and break your camera  LOL! The movie begins.... OMG! You had to see it to believe it!!!!!! Incredible!!!!! I also got to meet Jarred and Brook. It was great meeting you all! Here go some pix.

A Flyer's max cap. is 15lbs. I think the Archer is the cheapest Steadicam model that can handle Red.

We worked it out with the guys... it will work on a Flyer. It'll be right at the limit, but it's possible.
The Archer is much more desirable.

Great Brook, I look forward to trying it out on a friend's Flyer.
