Not yet a product and still in development at the university level, this amazing post tool should create some miracles with 4k footage and high end DSLR images. I have no personal connection to this project other than amazement at what they are doing for digital images.

This video includes some automatic masking and replacement techniques that will blow your mind.

While it may be some time before products like this are commercially available and reasonably efficient to use (speed and quality) the concepts are sound.

My advice is to complement any RED ONE footage you shoot with multiple exposures and angles taken with the highest resolution DSLR you can afford. It doesn't take that much extra time to capture the scene with a DSLR. I have a feeling there will be lots of cool ways to use those higher resolution DSLR shots combined with your RED Footage in the next 3 to 5 years. It's all about capturing as much information about your scene as possible now while you can.

-Especially long exposures of low-light scenes.

Mind. Blown.

I remember seeing this a while back, but for some reason I simply passed over it in my 'interweb-zombie' mode.

Awesome.
