Has anybody ued the zeiss variable primes?
How do they compare with the ultra primes?
On paper they seem like a viable alternative with a stop of 2.2.

Lovely short zooms but very heavy and bulky. I really wish they would have engineered them to be physically the same size so that one did not need to reset the rods, followfocus & mattebox with every lens change.

According to Carl Zeiss, the Variable Primes have the same optical quality as the Ultra Primes.
They never caught on because of their size and weight - much bigger than a prime, only slightly smaller than a full range zoom. Also the zoom ranges were not ones that DP's were familiar with.
I certainly think the VP's would make a good match with the RED ONE.
