Cineform released R3D conversion Tool R2CF

Is Red Team officially support the Cineform announcement today about their R2CF Tool which converts R3D to Cineform Express Files and Cineform Master Files (RAW / 444 / 422).

At this point only available for Windows only. Mac version is expected soon.

CineForm is using the RED SDK. So, yes. But I'm sure you want to hear that from someone at RED.

Just checked out the website and Cineform Express looks like a fantastic idea. The ability to swap out without rendering to a Cineform master is great and a real advantage for those of us looking for one DI to use throughout the editing process.
I am holding my breath for the Native Mac Version and the HD Link. Hopefully it will not be much longer as its been a long wait.
Well done to the both Davids and the Cineform team.

Just one last thing I am still finding the update procedure a little bit tricky as a European customer support times do not always tally. And with the frequency of updates I was wondering if you plan to do an automatic update procedure in the future.


CineForm Express Files. With the introduction of R2CF CineForm is also introducing a new concept called CineForm Express files. CineForm Express files are color-perfect "mini" versions of CineForm Master files. CineForm Express files are typically 1/4-resolution 10-bit 4:2:2 versions of CineForm Master files. For 4K R3D (2:1) source files, CineForm Express files are 1024 x 512 spatial resolution, and are approximately 3MBytes/sec in file size. They are extremely fast to create and easy to edit on all platforms including laptops. CineForm Express files even work within iMovie.

Display color between CineForm Express files and CineForm Master files match perfectly, allowing CineForm Express files to be edited online identically to CineForm Master files, including color correction and Active Metadata. At a time appropriate in your project you can swap out CineForm Express files for CineForm Master files on your NLE timeline and continue editing at your mastering resolution, but with all effects, transitions, etc retained. CineForm software coordinates the creation of Master and Express files so they have the same internal GUID which allows Active Metadata to be applied identically between Express and Master versions.

The download link was beta testers to download the tool alone, now it is part of our standard distribution of Prospect HD/4K and NEO HD/4K (so just download one of these.)

Yes we do intend to improve licensing, but updates can be installed without licensing issues -- we release 1 or 2 or those a month. It only gets tricker than we would like when moving from has Aspect HD to Prospect or a similar product jump.
