Sorry if this has been answered already; I looked up a few keywords on the board, but didn't do an exhaustive search.
Will the $17.5k base price include a single battery and charger? The sidebar at the Studio Daily article says yes. The RED Store seems to say otherwise.

This is the pricelist directly from red. Count on that.

Okay, fair enough. (I think Studio Daily should probably fix their article.) May I assume that the "Accessory Cables" will include a power adapter for battery-less studio work?

No, I think that would be an optional accesory.
You can probably use any PSU with a 4 pin xlr, or get the $550 RED charger which includes a 10' cable.
The power plug on the camera is a LEMO, so it would be pretty easy to make a cable.
Regarding power consumption I saw a statement, that RED said a fully loaded camera would run about two hours with a 140wh Red brick. If that is correct the power consumption is 70w or 4.8A.

Hmm, that seems surprising. I know the base package is not meant to be everything you need for production (and I'll definitely be getting at least one battery and charger), but considering that a number of REDs could potentially never see the light of day outside a greenscreen studio, having to shell out $550 for such a basic amenity as a power cable seems... well, surprising, like I said.
Could we get an official word on what standard power supply could be used? Not to slight your estimations, but I'd rather not take the chance of frying a brand-new RED. :)

I's the norm that professional broadcast cameras are sold without a powersource. It enables you to choose it yourself, and is handy because most already have a system on their hands already.
Note that the $17,500 item is not called "the base package", but simply "the red one camera"

D'oh! Guess I just revealed my n00b-ness... What I meant to say was, "Ah yes, no power supply -- just like all my other professional broadcast cameras have been."

Yeah, I just think it's cool it's not $18.500, with a charger/psu and battery :-)

Akabaka,
I wrote the Studio Daily article. In the pre-NAB rush, a few mistakes I made in composing the article sidebars went unnoticed. Somehow "Flexible mount high resolution LCD (not a VF) and "Battery and Charger" got pasted under "Included for $17,500", rather than where they should have been, under "Options are". Those were my mistakes in not proof-reading the sidebars more closely. I knew the correct column where those items should be, but didn't notice the mistake before the article draft was sent to Studio Daily. Anyone who is famliar with RED User knows that I am very good about details - but like everyone, I sometimes make mistakes when I'm under deadlines. I'll send corrections to Studio Daily this morning.
Cheers!

If you were at NAB you would see that most "broadcast cameras" are ala cart. Most cameramen may already have batteries and other accessories. The Red prices are very reasonable and make sense. I never got a chance to see the big screen as it was always a 45 min wait. I did see the footage over at the Apple booth. I got a chance to talk with an Apple person and I was able to freeze and scrub the footage. At this price range I would find it hard to consider other cameras.

Gibby: no worries, mate! It's a great article, and I knew that the official pricelist probably trumps all other sources, so I didn't get my hopes up too much. :) I certainly didn't mean to complain about what is/isn't included for the base price.

Yeah, maybe I should have used "film camera", as it applies to those too.
Not many Digital Cinema cameras around with an open purchase pricelist :-)

Hmmm...RED One is a digital cinema camera that is also specifically designed for EFP and limited ENG use. EFP/ENG sounds suspiciously like broadcast to me! There must be a reason we have a whole separate EFP/ENG forum on this board, eh? What RED doesn't do is "film" anything...

Well, the cool thing with this flexible camera system is that you can use it for almost whatever motion media genre you want to, by simply re-accessorizing and re-lensing it. Some will choose to use it for a narrow range of its capabilities - and that's fine. Some will use it across its inherent breadth of genres. Use the tool for what you want - its like a Leatherman or Swiss Army Knife.
The main limiting factors in RED One usage will be the skill sets and attitude of the user.

OK, call the RED an "EveryCast" camera....
Go from 4K Digital Cinema to web videos on your phone.
I was alluding to the first question about batteries.
Most digital cinema cameras are only rental, so you would not purchase
batteries in the traditional sense. Smaller form camcorders usually come with a charger and battery. "Broadcast cameras" battery systems are purchased ala carte - this is what the RED is doing. After all it was the NAB - "National Association of Broadcasters" - Maybe they will change the name to NAE - "National Association of Everycasters"
