I have just returned from NAB, and finally have access to the board.
I won't belabor you with a recanting of impressions that have already been posted.
There was no bigger buzz than RED, everyone wanted to talk about it.
"What's that long lineup all about?" "What is that thing?" "It does What?"
I delighted in watching eyes widen and jaws drop when I gave them the low down.
Here are a few random pics.

Definitely some big ears...before we test #8 we'll get some input from RED on the function of them...

No big deal Gibby... They just look kinda clunky compared to the look of the rest of the camera.

could the "ears" around the lens mount be used mounting points for flags if you don't have a mattebox?

Hi jbeale,
Probally best not to attach anything to the lens mounting system. Might make the 1st AC twitchy.
Chuck
Hello,
Here are a few I snapped after making my reservation.
Enjoy!

I've just noticed something odd that I didn't even see at NAB...If you take a look at the photo below you'll see that there is one t stop marking prior to 2.8. Looks like a 1.7?

I also noticed something interesting about one of the 18-50mm lens. On the bottom end of the barrell there was a stamp of "Made in the UK".......
UK lens......Cooke...?

Yep that's correct it is Cooke glass, with the Cooke metadata system.

Bro,
The Red brand lens are supposed to be made by Red, not Cooke. But the made in the uk stamp leads me to believe that they may have some connection.
Jim says that the lens are Red made though.

Hmm...yes there's been a lot of speculation as to some sort of a link/deal set up between RED and Cooke. When I heard that quote from Jim, well correct me if I'm wrong but the way it was written down made it sound as if he was giving a bit of a *wink wink* *nudge nudge* to us...hmmmm interesting.

Having looked into the Mysterium, should I now expect a horde of ghosts to fly out of my monitor and melt my face off, a la "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?

Based on what was said to me, there is certainly "some" connection. At the very least a license.

Yup, that's thr Red motor which will interact with the Red super grip.

Anyone hear of a wireless ff? Could do it with the Bartech I guess but it wouldn't have the same integrated aesthetic.
AGH spending too much time here, not getting work done :) Dammit, you people and your crappy too good products. Be more like sony! I haven't given so much as a passing look at a sony camera in... a year. You can get a lot done in a year! Pffft!

Ian, you couldn’t take this Misterium pictures from better angle!!!
Bro you are the genius!
What camera did you use?
On camera flash?
Do you have RAW or JPG of this picture?
How many MPs this photo is?
Not that I want to count the pixels, lol, but it is important for CMOS sensors to have multi layer filters in front of the photo-sites.
These filters could be quite sophisticated and expensive.
The reflection of your flash under good eyes scrutiny may tell us something about it.
Ian, did you press the pause baton during the playing of any 4K material?
I have report from the guy that was playing with the footage in the Apple booth going back and forth and stop on a single frames but anybody had a chance to do it on the 4K data?

If Gibby's numbers on the size and weight (around 5" and 3 pounds) are correct, there's no way that lens opens to f/1.7. Not unless new laws of physics have been discovered. Cooke's 15-40mm T2 (f/1.8) is 9" long and 8 pounds.
Brook Willard

It's F/2.8

Hey Andrew thanks!
I have a 6MP .jpg (sorry no RAW, it's point and shoot, but it has a nice Nikon sensor).
Here is a 100% crop of MYSTERIUM™.
Not sure how useful this is, given the chromatic interference pattern.

I know... just confirming to prevent confusion.
As for the sensor, it looks a lot different photographed than it looks in person. I suppose the Bayer filter does funny things to a flash. The sensor itself is a pinkish red and doesn't exhibit the chromatic reflectance you're seeing.
