Jim -
Unless I am mistaken, tomorrow is the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the first Red Day, when we got our little babies #6 & #7.
Yes, technically they got swapped for #6x and #7x when Red made the new "shim-free" PL mount - but to us, they will always be ELVIS and MR. BOND.
Anyway, thought I would post now as I am on location tomorrow upstate -
CONGRATS TO YOU AND THE WHOLE RED TEAM - what a fuckin' year, huh?
Feels like a decade sometimes - our cameras have shot well over 50T of Redcode - I wonder where the RED WORLD will be one year from today!
Have a glass of good champagne tomorrow - you and the team really deserve it!

Yup its been a year tomorrow since I got RED #8 that same night - which was followed very shortly thereafter by receiving two more REDs. In some ways it seems like yesterday - and in others it seems like years ago.
I wouldn't trade the experience of jumping onto the RED express clear back in mid-2005 for anything. Its been a fun ride - and RED revolutionized my own business as they launched their dream into the industry.
Thanks RED for all the courage, patience, long hours, perseverance, and foresight. Those of us on the front lines have benefitted beyond measure...

How many cameras went out that day?
Serial numbers 1 through 5 are Jim Jannard's. As I remember serial numbers 6 through 25 were picked up or delivered that first RED Day. It was a small, excited gathering - a historic milestone for RED and those of us early adopters.
On that day RED One became a delivered commodity in this industry...and those critics with the early claims of "vaporware!" either shifted their position to "OK, but it will never displace film" or more frequently just quietly started making their plans to adopt RED One - all the while hoping nobody would remember their early brash "its just smoke & mirrors!" retorts.
RED One not only was and is real, but Epic and Scarlet are on the way now. Those of us like myself, Offhollywood, Blair Paulsen, Shawn, and the others who took delivery of cameras that day will always grin at our courage to take the "RED leap" - and our faith that RED would deliver on their promises has been justified many times over!
Thanks RED...

I never have enough money to be anything but a skeptic when it comes to high end gear, but after working in REDAlert with 4k footage I have to say that I've never been more excited to be part of this generation of filmmakers. We've got a lot going for us these days, no small thanks to Jim and RED. Happy anniversary.

Congrats on the anniversary.
It's mind boggling to me how far RED has come since the days when
we were all wondering who was behind the crazy claims and the mysterious website.
:)
It's been a great ride - and I'm certain the next few years will only be more exciting.

i am certain that all 25 cameras were NOT delivered on the 31st of august. first off billy summers wife had a baby that day, so he #13, came to red day #2 on sept 7. and i am pretty sure that jim only took one, red one, so it is less than 19 that went out that day, my guess is it was more like 10 or 11 went out. i know on red day #2, when i got my camera, only about 10 cameras went out the door, as other were shipped and other decided not to come or could not afford their cameras.
maybe someone from red can clarify.

I had the pleasure of pairing with Mark's 007 and my 1686 a few months ago. I must say it was an honor. Thanks Jim, Jarred, Brent, Deanan, Greame, Sean, Kelley, Nate, and all the rest of the amazing Red crew for truly doing amazing things every day.

I'll shed some more light on that:
Besides taking delivery of RED #8 on the first RED Day (8/31/07), by previous arrangement with Billy Summers I also took delivery of his RED #13 that first RED Day - because the following morning (9/1/07) at Paradise FX in Van Nuys we made RED history by shooting, editing, and projecting the world's very first RED 3D footage using RED #8 and RED #13. Lucas Wilson edited the footage on-site, using his SCRATCH system. It was shot in 4k, edited, and projected on-site in 2k - within about an hour of being shot. On 9/1/07 I posted a thread on that first RED 4k 3D production right here on RED User, complete with photos of #8 and #13 in action mounted on PFX's paracam rig. After the 3D shooting #13 stayed in Hollywood, where Billy came to pick it up a few days later and shot some 2D footage. Billy then attended the second RED Day so he could experience what a RED Day was like and get some more accessories for #13. Three months later, in early December, Billy was a member of our LART team in L.A.
Jim Jannard never stated how many of his RED's he took delivery of on that first RED Day, although it wouldn't surprise me if he just took delivery that day of #1 and opted to take delivery of the other four at a later date - which would free up more camera bodies for his clients. He's that kind of guy - I've known him for over 20 years. Some of the client cameras were shipped to guys who couldn't attend. The longest traveler to the first RED Day was Scott Webster - who came all the way from New Zealand. There were also some guests at that first RED Day: Rodney Summers ASC, Mike Curtis, etc. Jim Jannard and Ted Schiliwitz gave verbal presentations, and Stuart English gave a hands-on demo of the camera and menus.
Twenty-five cameras (including Jannard's) were scheduled to be delivered that first RED Day. Leaving Jim's personal cameras out (which is his business), that left 20 more for delivery to clients. I would guess (and its only a guess), that maybe 15 cameras were picked up in person (including me picking up my #8 and Billy's #13), and five cameras were shipped to people who couldn't attend.
BTW - in September 2007 I also took delivery of two more RED One cameras.
