Anyone up for discussing gathering our purchasing power together in order to capture discounts on some of the accessories we might be purchasing? I know i will need to buy a tripod, MB and FF; possibily other items.

Pooling our purchasing power together might reward us in a nice discount.

BTW...this is not directed at RED accessories...

thoughts...suggestions??

Might be a good time to partner REDuser.net with someone like AbelCine. Perhaps get a discount code from RED when you purchase your camera? That would possibly help increase the discount and keep people honest rather than just have a generic REDuser member discount code.

I agree Jeff..good point.

Excellent time for a company to embrace this opportunity. I know I would if I was one of the manufacturers. But should be a no brain-er for retail companies.

I guess I am just curious since I am a student and in no way can I afford a Red camera, (even though I wish I could) Are many of you investing in 35mm lenses? Or are you using the Red Lenses?

Edit- The Red lenses are built around 35mm optics right?

I have a reservation on the 300mm and zoom. I'm going to stay in the RED family as much as possible; the pricing on RED lenses are just too hard to ignore; and I bet they will be top notch in quality.

The lenses are 35mm lens which will be able to take advantage of the entire sensor. There's alot of info in the lens section, check it out...it's been very valuable to me.

The RED lenses are s35 format. A lot of us have placed reservations for the RED lenses. They seem to have great specs and an exceptional price. Many people are also planning to use Nikon and Canon still photography lenses. These look to be a very realistic option as well.. The quality of the optics is right up there (after all Panavision has produced lenses using Nikon glass elements). What you gain from a true cine lens is longer focus throw and elements that are designed to float or travel to minimize or eliminate breathing.

Originally I was planning to use my Nikon glass, but with the announcement of the 18-50mm RED lens at $6500, the Nikons are looking to be less attractive. I'm thinking I'll probably buy the 18-50mm, definitely an 85mm prime if RED decides to sell it separately and the 300mm. I may buy the whole prime set if I feel I can justify it, but I've got a lot of new gear to buy later this year. Whatever I don't buy, I'll just rent... But renting Cooke or Zeiss primes costs anywhere from $100 to $300 per lens per day around here. Some even more than that, some only rented as sets too. For lenses that I will be using a couple times a week or more, it makes sense to own.
