Jim,
Have you given any thought into having Oakley or Red produce camera bags? I love my Oakley luggage and bags, but nothing on the market comes close to these when it comes to bags for pro dslrs and video equip.
Thanks,
SH

Seconded.
I could really use a camera bag designed specifically for the RED.

Yeah, this has been an interesting adventure for me. For big jobs where a lot of my Red gear will be used, I have a special case that was designed by Greg from Digital FX and Encore cases. It's big, doesn't have wheels, etc but that's what grips are for (or me if crew is limited). It's great because it protects everything nicely and it is good for spot checking to make sure everything is in its place.
But then there are the shoots where I want to go with the camera fully built, ready to pull it out of the bag and start shooting. That's where a bag comes in handy. I have one that comes close to fulfilling the task, but sometimes the camera build is too high, and when the viewfinder is attached, the whole build is too wide. What's tough for a company to build a Red bag is that the camera is so modular, people will build it a hundred different ways and so dimensions will be different and that puts the bag maker into a bit of a dilemma. It almost becomes a custom job. But I'd be curious to see a design if someone has done one. Might fit my needs.
One thing I do is take a laundry basket put a tempurpedic pillow in it and place the fully built camera in that. I can arrive at the location and start shooting as soon as the camera boots up. It's not a perfect solution but it works. I also have been using my Tamrac backback on run and gun shoots but I do have to build the camera a bit when using this setup.
Interested to see what others are doing.

I had a portabrace smuggler for trips laying around and it fits the Red really well with most accessories some attached some not but building takes a less than five minutesa and I could probably get a pull and shoot config going if I tried.

I usually sit with it fully built in my lap while my partner drives me around. (Only dif between hand held and studio is the handles are either up or down and studio mode gets the cradle and drive, while hand held is the quickplate and CF.)
My lap hates me...

Hi guys, I'm new to the red user forums. Just purchased a RED One and am looking for a good rugged case to carry it in.
Any suggestions? I've searched around the web and there don't seem to be any bags specifically for the Red. Are there certain dimensions I'm looking for?
Any help would be appreciated!

For a lightweight but good protective solution we have made the following bag. This is not to replace the hardcases but additional.
For more information mail us at sales@camrade.com or renevdreiden@hotmail.comhttp://www.reduser.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6834&d=1219140305
I am not affiliated to them, but these guys have them

Does anyone besides those guys make a bag specifically for the red one?
Are there any companies that specialize in camera bags for the red one?
I'd like something rugged but I don't want the one from the red.com store...

It doesn't seem like this is a big deal to people... It's a $20k camera... why are there only 2 cases for it?

there are already a ton of options for cases, hard case, soft case...just look around and you will see multitudes of different styles.
Mitch, I hope you are working with someone other than the known quantities.
I don't like Petrols or Kata's designs and Porta-brace is over priced, even though I have a ton of there stuff I think it could be less expensive.

I've been looking and can't find anything specifically for the Red One. If you know of a few hard cases specifically for the Red One I'd love to know what they are and where I can find them on the web...

Ambush,
Here's an old post of mine showing off my A&J case.

Holds everything but lenses and batteries. Camera is built minus the EVF and pulls out and clicks right onto the head. An improvement was made by my friend Bob to beef up the divider on the latch side that holds an 18" dovetail.
Paul, do you REALLY think Porta-Brace is overpriced? Most of their bags have lasted me well over 15 years. They are well-built and clever. I'd buy a Red One Porta-Brace in a heartbeat.
Cheers,
Harry

Not outrageously, like I said I have plenty but the same quality and materials
are used in other industries for less than PB charges. This may be due to the fact that the bags are still made here in the US, but I would be suprised if that was the case....no pun, although it could be.
Check out the smuggler if you are looking for a bag for Red. I can fold it in
and use it in overhead storage and it fits built camera except the EVF which is stowed in a padded bag in front of the camera. I just which it was cheaper. with me being a cheapskate and all.

Yes, it's likely the US manufacturing adds to the cost. As time goes by and I see what so-called "free trade" has wrought, I'm actually perfectly willing to pay more for a quality product made in the US.
I am also a cheapskate, BTW. ;)
Cheers,
Harry

Rodney Carter used a Think Tank bag when he traveled the world. Quite a nifty package - http://modifoo.com/2008/10/09/rodney-charters-travels-the-world-in-red.html
