Yes, there will be a link to contact us specifically about becoming a remote field producer. An RFP will be paid for any video articles used. In the beginning, most RFP's will come from other countries as I can't fly all over the world.

Think of this as more of a video resource on how to use the RED system. Showcases on accessories and how to use them, interviews with cinematographers using RED, etc.
Not so much narrative work.

Are you aware of the Bloodshots film contest? I know there was the recent discussion about trademarks and the like, so I wouldn't want trouble from from such things, especially with what looks like such a great thing.

I wasn't, so I "did a search" (can't say googled) for it and didn't look past the first five or so pages of results. Could you point me in their direction?
I think I'm okay though.
Hi Shawn

I'll be back in LA end of the Sept to shoot video articles. If anyone wants to contribute or has ideas for articles they'd like to see, please let me know.
In fact, what would you guys like? I have the first 2 issues locked (but aren't all things subject to change?). I struggle daily with wether or not to reveal certain upcoming articles... especially when they're not in the can yet...
Issue 1.1 will cover basic camera packages, building the camera, accessories (ET shock mount among others) and a few interviews you won't find anywhere else, plus much, much more. It will be free but the other 11 come only with a purchased subscription. Subscriptions include the 11 issues, downloadable video articles, each issue delivered on DVD at the end of every month, fullscreen viewing online, shirts/stickers - maybe some coupons and other goodies... Still working on the price, but it's somewhere between $35-55 a volume (year).
**NOTE, only talking about the online channel.
**NOTE, No matter when you subscribe, the cost will be the same, and it will only be valid for Volume 1. (So, for example - If you subscribe in Dec or Jan you will get the whole year. If you subscribe late, in say September 09, then you will only four issues in the volume.)

Cool, although finner is free :)
Although your price seems fair, unless my third world country decides to devaluate its money and then I should ask for a coupon heh!
Best of luck with the new enterprise. Hope to see that soon.

Just returned from the mainland where I was fortunate enough to hang with the guys of Element Technica and View Factor.
We have video articles on their various goodies with in depth info and demo's.
Also cooking are interviews with a couple of A list cinematographers -
More to come soon!
**1st issue 01 DEC 08 - FREE**

Given the numerous videos concerning RED and using it already in existence, what do you like and what do you want to see?
I have a bunch of articles in post now, more to be filmed - just curious what you'd like explained, featured, etc.
Was gonna wait for this, but I want to gauge what everyone is looking for.

It's all going to be cool. Perhaps a short on multicam Red work??

I know it's not really directly related to Red and
there are a million way of doing it and maybe
it's an advanced level of tutorial...but I'd love to
see somebody doing a color grading in a video
tutorial...

What would i like to see. Maybe the odd article on different Red owners and how they got to be where they are. Judging from the variety of experience and level of expertise( i put myself on the lower end on these ones) There are alot of people doing a lot of different things. could be interesting. also would love to see some articles on the ways people have found to get the most out of their set-up whether big or small or almost no budget. just some ideas.

What I think would be really cool to see would be postmortems on various projects, tiny shoots to full studio productions. You know, in-depth interviews with directors and DP's after a project is finished, about how the shoot went, how did they use the RED, what issues popped up and how they overcame them.
I like the REDroom segment they do on the RED Center podcast, and I think instead of 10 minutes interview about a certain "REDuser", it would be cool to devote that 10 minutes just to the in's and out's of a single project, and in video form would be even more exciting, with clips or photos from the set.

This is in the works...
The challenge though is getting approval to be on set. Also, finding the time to sit with cinematographers/DPs, directors, users. I am working on this though.

Obviously it wouldn't be the easiest segment :bleh: but if you were wondering what I think would be really neat, that's what I'd suggest :)

I know you must be planning on doing this, but I couldn't emphasize this enough. Please cover the entire idea of what it really means to shoot R3D format, including how colorspace and gamma work in camera, and how they must be used in post (transcoding) for various output formats. I mean in-depth, intense, and hardcore.
Good luck!

Hey Shawn! Great news. For the print magazine, will it be possible to get copies up here in Canada? Any idea on the newsstand price - also will you be offering subscription packages? I think myself and many others would gladly subscribe.

This is in the works. Will be a multipart series available after the first issue (so by subscription only).
This is a bigger article and very time consuming. Have to get it right.

Hey Shawn! Great news. For the print magazine, will it be possible to get copies up here in Canada? Any idea on the newsstand price - also will you be offering subscription packages? I think myself and many others would gladly subscribe.
Print magazines will be available BY SUBSCRIPTION ONLY. You must subscribe to the website in order to receive the magazine. (Magazines will be available to all countries except where it's impossible, like Cuba... ) Also, Print will not be available right away.
Cost to print 5,000 copies and to send them out is roughly around $7K an issue. We have to gauge the number of subscribers and demand for the print version BEFORE we start printing.
My girlfriend publishes SMART magazine (www.smartmagonline.com) and helps me stay above water in regards to launching/running/publishing a print vehicle for all things RED. I can't just start printing and hope everyone subscribes.
Only 2 cities will carry the print version on news stands - Los Angeles, CA and NYC. Camera/post houses, vendors such as RED, View Factor, Element Technica will receive copies to have on hand. Otherwise, you will need to subscribe. Subscription gives you access to the monthly website and downloads as well as the magazine (6 issues a year). The first 150 subscribers will also receive a FREE BLOODSHOT TV T-Shirt.
I am working on products as well, along with give aways.
Individual issues will cost $9.95US. Subscription rate is $55/year.

Aloha Jas! Thx for the inquiry...
BLOODSHOT is still going, albeit slowly. Problem is finding an available 2nd RED to shoot with.
Also, jobs keep coming. Not complaining here, but they do take up all my time.
Waiting to hear from Curt @ Viewfactor before I post the video I made on their motors...
Working on another video for the Mantis...
Was planning in depth ones on RED Alert! and REDCINE but that person is impossible to get a hold of.
Plus, my cam is on its way for the upgrade...
