In life, timing is everything. We were just about going to put out some bucks pre ordering the new Pana HPX500. Id heard about the RED for some time, but like lot of people I though it looked cool, and made some pretty wild promises but I was hopeful, but pretty sceptical and being a new and small production company based in Perth, Western Australia (re most isolated city in the world) we need a very solid & reliable system. So anyway, along comes Apple and changes everything. That was the clincher for us. For those guys to come out with full support for the RED in FCP meant we could feel reasonably confident about the product. That said, everyone here who has placed an order for the RED needs to be applauded. To my knowledge, we still have not seen the first production camera roll off the line. This company has NO record for either, production quality control, customer service, backup, product reliability etc etc. Sunglasses aint camera's.
After much soul searching and late night discussions, we took the leap and ordered one, we will just have to manage without a new camera for 6months or so. We’ve put a hell of a lot of faith in the guys at RED. We can’t afford to make a bad mistake on something like this. This camera will be our future as well.
As a Kiwi living in Aus, we sometimes forget why America became is the great superpower it is today. I think reason is because of the people like Jim Jannard and the guys at RED. Good on ya! dont let us down guys.
