Hey Brent and Red team!
Is there anyway you could merge Red Alert and Red Rushes? These two almost do the samething as RedCine exept working in the same application. I would like to have Red Alert with multi clip import and the export functions of RedRushes. Is this something you are working on? And of course, edl/xml import and relinking from FinalCut... It just seems like its harder to develop RedCine compared to the other software.
Great Work!

If I'm doing something for the web, end result being 1280x720, is quarter res too low of a debayer in Red Rushes? I've been doing half res.

Soo, what's an RSX file? I had them confused with RLX files. I've been using redcine mostly and am just now checking out red rushes.

The audio output for RR really makes me happy ;)

Me too, but I'm having an issue with this build...
Selecting an external RSX file to apply as a look to the selected clips results in a movie where the image is pure white.
Anyone else? I forget if there is a specific bug thread to post this in.

Well, since the playback speed of RA! is so SLOW (even with 8 cores), why sound was not first added to RC, that do play realtime?

rock on, stoked for the addition of sound. A giant mahalo to the red team, this makes my life so much easier.

So nobody can shed some light on rsx files? I can't seem to find info on them since the search function doesn't recognize the entry rsx.

rsx files are the autosaved files for redalert that contain the metadata for many of the properties in redalert (I would say all but I am not sure) So when you change the iso, contrast, sat, even in and out points, it saves immediately next to the r3d file so when you open it in redalert it applies the metadata to it again. You can actually see it happen when you open the file. You can use it to apply to many clips etc. very handy....

Hi Deanan !
Thanks for the new Version !!
One Question: Would it please be possible to save presets in a preset file for RR? AND for example I want to keep the look from camera but want to add a different curve for example, would it be possible to add a field to put in additional parameters like in RA?
thanks

Can someone in Red, or someone capable, answer my question? Am I the only one experiencing this ridiculously slow speed from RA?:angry02:

I'm no expert but AFAIK, RC is GPU accelerated while RA, RR and RL are CPU only, hence the lacking RT performance.

Playback speed? It's slow for everyone as it's a CPU based app. You basically use it on still frames. If you want fast playback use RedCine as it's GPU based. Try the smallest, low quality and work up from there to see what your system can handle.

They're do different programming paths/teams. RA was our internal R&D app that we released because people liked it. It was never designed to play back in realtime. Audio in RA is only for transcoding to QT.
RC will be getting Audio support soon. It's currently under way.

I'm ready for the new redcine. All it needs is audio, which is set for the next version, and a way to have multiple in and out points on the same clip. I still find it much easier to batch transcode from that then Red Rushes, now that it can actually make it all the way through without crashing.
How soon are we looking on that new version of RC Deanan?

This support my idea as to why RA audio first than RC if it cannot be heard at current speed!

Try deleting the RSX file and recreating it.
Also, send me the output of export script and the RSX file
if that doesn't work.

What's the technical difference in the current version under "Debayer Quality" between "Half Res (High)" and "Half Res (Standard)" ?
TIA
Deanan
09-16-2008, 12:55 PM
Half Standard: Faster debayer, can be a bit more aliasy (and perceptually a bit sharper as a result).
Half High: A special down sampling debayer. Higher quality and smoother. It's slower than Half standard but faster than doing a full debayer and scaling down.

Thank you for such a quick answer and this great option!
Hard to see any difference between Half High and Full without having very detailed texture in the frame, an it's still considerably faster.

Can you try replacing the space in "RED Test" with RED_Test"?
That space could be causing the problem.
Same with "RED footage" in your path.
