Hello,
Does RedCine work with audio?

I've shot an interview (with sound). When I try to export it using RedCine to Motion JPEG A or H.264 (for example) there is no sound in the exported file, when played back in Quicktime.

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

I did play back sound in the camera after the shoot.

Please help!

Thanks

No sound support in Redcine, yet.

You can pull sound via RED Alert, that support was added, uh, today! :)

You can also pull sound from the QT proxies.

Thanks Jeff for the update.
I hope they add audio to RedCine Soon - it's important.

You need to either use Red Alert, which now supports audio, or pull the audio from the proxies. Pretty straight forward, but I agree, it will be NICE when RedCine does it.

Honesty, why does this camera have sound? I'd like to fill the audio ports on my camera with hot glue. Sound is for the SOUND DEPARTMENT. Do you see audio inputs on a Panavision or Arri 35mm cameras? Nope.

Sound mixers have their own devices, which record audio at much higher fidelity. Let them do their job expertly, and let the camera department do their job. I am sick of all the additional cables, which slows down the creative process.

I continue to tell my clients that the best workflow for sound on Red is double system. I have yet to have an audio problem.

I think sound will be pretty standard going forward into the 21st century. Of course anyone can use a double system with the Red. One could even use the sound recording on Red One as a backup to the double system. Everyone has different applications, budgets and workflows.

Just because the ports are there doesn't mean you have to use them. personally as long as the audio capture quality is high i'd rather use a single system to record both possibly with all the audio controls being wireless. I've had to hand sync hundreds of hours of footage. its not productive and its not fun.
