Jetlag, back to Switzerland, woke up to early. Everybody want's a RED camera now. Great. Welcome on the train bound for glory. This last days were very impressive for me in different ways. First of all, I had the privilege to see the 4Kjackson-jannard film several times, my english is not good enough to describe my feeling about what I have seen. But I understand Jim very well when he don't want to put this film on a minor quality on the web: This man is, as far as I understand now, the incarnation of perfection. He want the absolut perfect camera with an absolut perfect picture. I know how it hurts, when you see a work you have done, painted with the most beautifull light, in a chunky way. I think, it will be a good idea, to post some representic pictures full 4K, to give a way a keyscene (about 30 seconds) let's say in uncompressed 2K. And why not the 12 minutes in 264 codec or something similiar as every big studio does ist (you can even wathermark the picture, that you will kill everybody who try to put this film on youtube). And you can watermark, that all the neisayer, all the people who think, RED is not good enough for the high snobiety at Hollywood or everywhere else on the world should be at least be so fair, not to comment this picture, before they have seen it in a 4K theater. And for all people here: At the beginning of this beautifull REDstory Jim published and shared every moments and pictures with as and the rest of the world and what happend? There was a lot of doubt, people opened frames in photoshop zoomed in (hi there is a strange pixel, hey is this that or that) but they did not understand the process, they couldn't understand the process, because Jim and his team work in a way which is rather new on this planet: It's a sort of renaissance in research and economic and networked intelligence, a new way to see things. It is not just the camera, the other player should worried about, it's more the philosophy behind, that should make fear the dinosaurs and how fast this processes are, so fast that all the other even can't blink with an eye and there will be a 4Kmonitor, 4Kprojector, other cameras (I'm shure, there will be one next year, perhaps even the REDone will shoot 1000 picts/sec) and on and on. I could write a book about my thoughts but first I will train my english ;-)
RED is not nice to have, it's a must have. RED is absolutely good enough for us filmmakers, every discussion about quality should now first start about the quality of storytelling and pictures, about how to handel a camera like RED. It will be interesting to see, what happens now, but one is as shure as I will go to bed now: RED is a revolution.
