Announcing...

We’ve been waiting for our RED to arrive for about nine months and the time has finally come! So today, we’re announcing a new program called REVO(lution) that is intended to help more filmmakers start shooting on RED. We specifically want to help filmmakers who want the benefits of RED ownership, but can’t necessarily afford their own package.

The program works a lot like a fractional ownership program that you might see for exotic cars, yachts, or vacation condos. Members pay an annual fee and are given access to the camera package throughout the year. Membership is limited to 10 filmmakers per camera package. We’re starting with just one package right now, but we’re hoping to partner with other RED owners to grow the program through a profit-sharing program that we’ll be announcing soon. We’d love to hear your thoughts about the program and any ideas you might have to make it better.

We’re offering a promotion to get the REVO(lution) program started. For a limited time, members who sign-up before September 30, 2008 will get three extra months of membership for free. (Early members also get priority should a reservation conflict arise, so if you’re interested, you’ll want to join soon.)

Thanks!

Interesting idea,

If you work that out on a rental basis:

@ 10 people per camera, you get a min of 35 days of useage for $8,000.
Which is a day rate of roughly $230.

Not bad, so long as you can get the camera when you need it.

Also, not too bad for the owner either, $80,00 a year income if you get ten members per unit.

The question is what accessories does it come with?

It is an interesting idea, I'd consider changing your name now though, since RED has specifically asked people not to use RED in their company name (obviously there are exceptions) see this thread for more info

@ kinobarin - Thanks for your thoughts. We received permission to use the website name from Jarrod based on the fact that the site contains the proper disclosures for RED trademarks and is branded with our company name and logo - Trillusion Media.

Is it 10 users per actual camera package, or is it the total number of users divided by the number of packages available, with a maximum of 10 subscribers per camera. What I am asking is if you have 10 cameras in your program, do 100 subscribers divide up 3650 'camera-days' among all the cameras or does each group of 10 always compete for the same package?

Cool, just didn't want you setting up a ton of stuff to find out later that things might have to change, but that's cool that you got permission first.

Good luck with the program, it will be interesting to hear in the future how it goes, I think it should work out well for both sides.

Good questions. Our current thinking is the program will work best if it is based on geographic regions. For example, a RED owner in LA would be attached with up to 10 members in LA. This would speed delivery and allow owners to build relationships with members in their area. However, a hybrid approach where owners can pool resources in a given area might allow for more flexibility.

We're still thinking this part of the program though and would appreciate your thoughts and feedback.

I'll post more information about the partner aspect of the program soon.

No worries. I appreciate your concerns. We want to protect the RED brand and continue to see the RED community thrive.
