Is there any danger that demand will over stress the production schedule. Do they have capacity to handle the fact that this might become too successful?

They'll ramp production according to demand. I wouldn't be concerned... they know a thing or two about meeting demand.
Reservations should be filled by December of this year. Firm orders will be shipped in the order they were received after that point. They'll be pretty good at making cameras by then.

Hi,
Like any new product in heavy demand, production capacity or waiting time will increase!

Hmmm... High Demand + Low Supply = ... do the math. I hope we wont see price increases next year....then again, maybe we do!

Even large companies can get overwhelmed by high demand, but I think Mr. Jannard knows a thing or two about mass-producing. My only worry would be about sensors, but since the sensor design has been wrapped up a long time ago I'm sure he's got them lined up in a big way. Building the production line is propably what will take the most time. Oh - and maybe designing a building specifically for the company RED :-)

Hi,
I think Jim knows very well that the demand is linked to the price, due to economy of scale it's a win win situation for him. I don't think you have to worry about price rises, never happened with technology before.

I'd say, after all reservations are filled, it will be more of a business decision than not to keep the prices the same. I have read in one of Jim's earlier posts that no prices are guaranteed post-rez. I wouldn't bank on prices remaining the same if I were you. The laws of demand/supply will more than likely factor in and inform their decisions by then.

Red appears to be planning a pretty aggressive ramp-up.

If you project that out into next year, they're going to be shipping a lot of cameras into a market which has traditionally been pretty small. Of course, something could always go wrong, but... they've done pretty well hitting their targets in the R&D phase, so we should probably give them the benefit of the doubt with respect to production.

I know I was told my Red should be coming out next spring--which means they've sold over 3,500 of the suckers. Pretty amazing! But, it's also hard to believe that they sold 2,000 of them during NAB....
Another question I had was, where are they building the units? CA? Asia?

Matthew, my order was timestamped at 9:03 monday and i was 429th in line! so i'm sure they sold over 2000 during NAB.

Brook, as far as you may be aware and issues of commercial sensitivity aside..
given you are "closer to the action" what can you tell us about the whereabouts of manufacturing the cameras. All at RED in California or will there be global outsourcing to meet volume. ?

Cool Chris, that's what I thought.
Turnover, I can tell you that the manufacturing takes place on Earth.
