Is RedAlert 3.5.0 and previous versions support Avid DnXHD codec output for QuickTime. We tried for our couple of projects and its not working.

Just want to confirm about the Red support to Avid DnXHD codec in both RedAlert and RedRushes. I believe RedCine v3.1.2 doesn't support DnXHD.

What is the best codec for offline dailies to Avid? Even DV codec is missing?

Attached snapshot of DnXHD codec QT output.

We've used compressor to re-render _M resolution proxies to DNX_36 Quicktimes. Use metacheater to get the metadata into Avid as an ALE, then batch 'fast' import the DNX quicktimes.

There is a known conflict with the durrent DNX codecs, which is reported to be fixed in the 3.05 release of Avid, due in a few weeks (?) There is also a known problem with the red quicktime component at resolutions above _M, so you may also experience the 'white out' render. Don't know when the fix for that is coming, but I've also heard it's soon.

Currently 'onlining' a short film shot on Red, entirely in Avid- with the help of 'Monkey Extract.' If you're an all-avid shop, you'll want to check that out for sure! The process is a little bit convoluted, but it's pretty cool, too!

Anxious to try an Avid > Color workflow using 'Monkey' soon, too.

There are several issues at hand here. One is the limited choice of DNxHD codecs in the RED products other than the default which is 175x (for 24fps) or 180x for 25fps. This is something that RED needs to implement. Since the tools do not work via the QT Player interface, they cannot access all the data rates as other QT aware applications do such as After Effects, Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, etc.

The other issue is the result of the 175x QT which is nothing but noise. This has been fixed and will be part of the v3.0.5 release as Greg mentions which is due out very shortly.

The last issue is when using QT references of the R3D files and the imports are either white or corrupt is a fix that RED will be releasing very shortly as well enabling direct import of R3D QT ref into Media Composer when on Mac.

Can you expand upon that one Michael? This has been possible only the import times are loooong. Or are you just talking about the white or corrupt thing?

Presumably the 3.05 release will also apply to Symphony Nitris editor? Although I am on PC and not MacPro...

The codecs apply to all editors across all platforms.
