Hello,

every 3 months, there is an event in Studio Babelsberg Berlin, where Fritz Langs Metropolis and so many other fine films (and some terrible in 1939-1945 ones) have been shot.

the studio
http://www.studiobabelsberg.com/
the event (sorry only in german)
http://hdatwork.de/

the one-day event attracts 400-500 producers, dops, directors etc and is called "hd at work". every 3 months the local producers show what they are working on and releasing next - in the wonderful studio babelsberg presentation cinema on a sony srx 4k beamer.

last time arris d20 was featured in great detail, several "experts" on stage said that "red canīt do what they announce" "its imposible to build such a sensor" - the usual stuff we kept hearing until now.

we showed some parts of our last full feature "sovia" and i didnīt comment the redbashing besides a simple remark, that we have 2 red ones coming. most people didnīt even know what red is and whats it all about.

now, for our next slot, i was planning showing parts of our next fullfeature - but instead of that, i think it might be much more interesting to empty our slot and give that on to red, allowing red to show "crossing the line" in full 4k glory (dvs clipster + sony srx are the infrastructure).

that certainly would be -the- ideal introduction for germany and offer interested customers and reservationholders the oppurtunity to see red 4k in its full glory, and also could be the first meeting for all the german reservationholders.

i would propose that directly to the members of the board of babelsberg - would that make sense for red or is it impossible due to copyright issues? the next event starts 06/20/2007, and i have a good relationship with them, as we have been pioneering 1080p & 2k digital production since ~2000.

p.s.
ludwig with its 5 red on orders wanted to come last time all the way from Munich, but couldnīt make it due to an illness. i would have no problem to also propose him for our slot, his rentalcompany is wellrespected in Germany.

p.p.s. this is a shameless repost, as the original post ist buried in another thread.

Oh yesssss. Wake up call.
Lots of people Iīve talked to here are semi-knowledgeable about Red at best.

yeah, there are plenty of low-cost airlines from most mayor european cities connecting to berlin-tegel, berlin-schönefeld and berlin-tempelhof as well, so it would be pretty easy for most europeans to take a flight.

http://air-berlin.de/
and
http://www.easyjet.com/
both have their european hubs in berlin.

Yes, very true - I'd come over for from the UK if anything like this happened. Plus, Berlin is a fabulous city - so we could all have a little jolly whilst we're at it!!

yeah, i have been living in several metropolitan areas (grew up in paris), but moved 1999 to berlin as it has some pretty untypical aspects for a city of its size.

Berlin is the city of art and film, I'm often there sitting in a café with friends and talk about anything and nothing. I'll be there if RED will be there.

it seems that babelsberg would see a nice gathering of the early reservation holders.
hopefully someone from red posts if there is a possibility to have the screening at babelsberg.

Hi Laguun, I started to talk with the RED people for a chance to see a Red, some Red people or some Red footage at Digitale Cinematographie on 28th in Munich.
Maybe this is the better chance, we have the Munich Filmfest in the same time. (www.digitale-cinematographie.de). We have an Imax Cinema, we have the
4K Sony projector and it is the 6th time we do that. (Sorry the website is in german... for all others we are working on that).
The most important information - we have not got a YES from Red. They are thinking about it and will let me know soon.
If we get a yes - I am sure that we will soon be also in Berlin to give the Berliner a chance to put a hand on it !
we will inform also on our website www.red.rental.de

Hello ludmux,
i think we canīt have enough presentations and screenings in the early days. the cinema in the location in berlin-babelsberg, the oldest large studio in the world still running, is excellent as well and the sony srx 4k is there as well.

same here. we honestly donīt care where the first, second etc screening takes places, as long there is any. IBC simply isnīt enough, as #1 its rather broadcast and #2 many of the usual local VIPs never show up there.

important for us is that the dops, producers, directors etc
a) get aware, that red really exists (most people are still highly sceptic and rather, if at all, visit IBC than NAB)
b) can see how good the quality of the red camera is
and both as soon as possible for as many people as possible.

i think that the event in berlin is plannend when you already could have your cameras. if i remember correctly you are somewhere in the ~100-150? we have 2 coming, one ~200, one ~900.

i sincerly hope, that red will find a way to take benefit of these two events, which together would certainly reach x.xxx customers.
But i do understand that red has to ensure that there are no copyright issues, that they can represent themself in an ideal light etc.

p.s. what is your alibi to be online so late? we have 2 masterings running and i have to monitor the renderings :)

If this event is going to be real few of us would come to Berlin as well.

are there any early reservation holder in europe who would like to be invited to the event in berlin, in case red canīt/doesnīt want to participate?

our first red will arrive a little bit too late.

we would, besides the flight, offer further bribes and incentives :)

but a tad later in case RED can't make it in time to Berlin:

"Hands on HD" by nordmedia

The site is in German, but if you scroll down all the way, there's a PDF in English. BTW: many classes will be held in English this year.

Hannover is just over an hour by fast train from Berlin...
