From what i understand I can do both in upcoming and updated FCP 6.

If my objective is theatrical I go Redcode right off a firewire drive depending on how fast my machine is.

If I want broadcast formats I transcode to ProRes 422.

can I edit on a current macbook pro laptops in proREs 422.

Does the Aja I/o HD do away with the transcode process?

When will we know what transcode times on a laptop will be?

Once finished editing in ProRes 422 if I suddenly decide for theatrical can I access original REDcode raw files and recreate a redcode timeline from the prores422 timeline ?

The IO-HD is designed to ingest SDI, component and other video sources into your system or to output video to SDI, HD, etc.. display systems. All works over the FW-800 port. The IO-HD has ProRes 4:2:2 support built-in and can encode and decode ProRes up to 2K in real-time. If you already have REDCODE on a RED DRIVE or other storage media, you wouldn't use IO-HD to transcode it to ProRes. You would use the IO-HD to send your ProRes clips out to an SDI / HDMI / Component monitor or projector or a VTR. Like if you needed to produce a DVCPROHD or HDCAM tape master, you could rent a deck and then use the IO-HD to get your digital footage out of the computer to that deck.

Yes.

No, but it should be very fast, possibly no diffrenet from a straight copy.

Just export a pulllist (EDL) from FCP and use Redcine to re-output 4K files. You will need a 4K aware app to actually online the 4K though.
