has anyone found a good fix to secure the side wings on the redrock mattebox?

im about to drill holes in them to turn the tightening pins into locking pins...today seems like a good day as we're next to a machine shop at our location.

they fall off ALL THE TIME! DP already said twice: "I hate this mattebox"...sorry brian, i still like it...

They fit. You just have to work them in the right way into the slot.

A little finish comes off though.

Its not that they don't fit, they fit fine, but after a bit of shooting and camera moves and mattebox tweaks, they fall out. I want them to lock.

We just shot a whole feature with the Redrock mattebox and didn't have a single issue with it. No falling wings at all. Indeed, our guys love this thing. We'll be ordering a second one soon.

Yeah, a few days threw this project and we're paper-taping them on so they dont fall in the mud. Everything else is very solidly built, but this one element just bothers me. Im thinking about machineing off a bit of material on the connection so it has a bit of a locking slot.

We had also shot a full feature with it and never had an issue like that.

Mine fall off too. I noticed the first day I got it which was right before it went on a feature. I told them not to use them cause they fell off so often :(

Weird, I haven't any issues with mine falling off. You are all sliding them IN the slot and not trying to put them on the outside like the top flag, correct?

They are clearly installed correctly, I think that the way the tightening happens it pinches to wing at only two tiny points as the material bows in.

Okay, I figured that you had them in correctly. What should have been done was to either have two screws that tighten down like it currently does, or have just enough vertical room that you have to slide the flag straight in to make it fit. That way the part that the flag is sliding into is supporting on the top and bottom. I still say that for RR's first mattebox it is VERY well designed and can only get better in the future.
