View Full Version : Blue Grain on Undercrank

We just did some shots at 1 fps, and we have a weird static blue grain in the darker areas. It is there but not so prominent in the proxies as well. It is definitely the most notable looking at the R3D files in RedCine.

Build 16
4K 2:1
1 fps

Anybody have this problem or have any ideas?

you can even see the grain more while looking at RedCine than this RedCine Snapshot shows...

Were you in timelapse mode? If so, they are still trying to resolve the hot pixels issue. I've noticed on some of my timelapse tests, but it isn't as bad as it used to be :)

tannerstauss & Justin,

I've done quite a bit of shooting at slower frame rates as well (1 - 6 fps) (not tim4elapse but variable speed in relative mode) and have always experienced pretty serious hot pixel issues in the results when viewed in RedCine. However, after processing (I'm using CineForm R2CF and CS3 at 4K on a PC) I experience no trace of the hot pixels and the images have looked very good. Go figure...

Were you in timelaspe or varispeed?
What was your shutter speed?
Did you do a black calibration once you had this long exposure set up?

I hadn't thought to do a black calibration with the slow frame rate/long shutter combination in place. I'll definitely give that a try. Many thanks for pointing that out.

We had the shutter at 360 degrees, and we were in varispeed, thats why I said "undercrank". And I am not sure if we did a black calibration, I was just workflow on this show.

From my experience, you will definitely see an improvement after doing a new black shading for longer exposure times.
Just don't forget do do another one for standard speed…
