Very interesting article that relates very closely to some recent discussions on the Red One forum.


I'd say it supports the notion that at the very least, film will stick around as an archival format...at the very least.

I did a D.I. over at Technicolor TDI a few months ago and asked the colorist what he had been working on lately -- he said they were making b&w fine-grain separation masters straight from the digital masters from the D.I. sessions for long-term archiving. Of course the digital masters themselves were being archived, but it never hurts to have back-ups in different forms, including YCM's.

Now this is interesting. This could be one of the first real dissadvantages to the Red system. Digital archiving: having to digitally migrate evry two years? Sounds like a nightmare.
