Damn that's the lens I've been waiting for! When is that bad boy out? Any idea on cost?
What's the word on the 30-80, anybody tested one out, or heard any good things?

i had it in my fingers at IBC...its pretty cool. almost same size as the longer one.
20k. pretty cheap
but i dont know if i would invest in them know...people here just love primes
the arri stuff is pretty cool too
btw. arri was thinking about a new line of the high speeds for us.
but the damn EU laws forbid them to sell the highspeeds.
they had a very good offer in mind.

I think Kaya means Lead when saying Plumb (Blei auf Deutsch?)

Hi,
I played with both at IBC, they both do get darker at the end of the zoom (ramping).

Drats. I was hoping that T2.8 was a byproduct of their desire to eliminate ramping.
Still waiting for a zoom lens that gets all the key things right and hoped Angenieux would make that lens. What do I want? The usual stuff; clean image, smooth mechanicals, reasonable size/weight, minimal breathing and ramping, faster than T2.4 across the range, 15mm on the wide end. Would be nice to cover a larger range though I can imagine the physics of going 16mm to 80mm on one lens would be extremely problematic.
Closest I've seen is the Cooke CXX 15-40mm but its pretty heavy (which may be unavoidable) and pricey (though that may be unavoidable as well).

Hi Blair,
It's about the last 5mm on the wider zoom lens and last 10mm on the longer zoom. It's not serious but wide open I noticed it, the guy on the stand must have been blind as he could not see what I was complaining about. The lens is very small & light so I am sure it will be a useful lens breathing is very minor. It also looked sharp with minimal distortion

As in plumbum [Pb] or lead. Tree-hugging, hippie environmentalists have ruined it so in many places companies can no longer produce / sell products (such as glass, optics, electronics) that have certain concentrations of lead.
One of the Offhollywood guys mentioned in another thread that this new Optimo would be available in the next few months. I'm guessing by the end of the year. I'm really interested... It's 1/3 the price of the Arri LWZ-1 and while it's not quite as wide, 16mm is still pretty good and it may be a bit longer and heavier, but overall looks like a good lens.
I'll see if I have any money left after I buy those RED primes. Heh.

Looks like it will be March for this lens and possibly just a few weeks for the 30-80...
Hey Jeff - the longer zoom ships in a few weeks - the 16-42 does not ship until MARCH. I know ... wish it was sooner - but I just got the "official word".
I WILL have a proto of the 16-42 VERY soon - there are TWO in existence - and I'll try to post some test images.
