Hi!

I'l be DIT'ing our RED on a filmset in a couple of weeks. The director don't want any cables running from the camera so sound is recorded externally to a Sound Devices 744T jam synced. The sound guy sends sound wireless to the RED for safe.
It will be cut in FCP using proxys and conformed etc using Scratch.

I am looking for ideas or examples of workflows on how to replace sound from RED with the sound from the 744T after edit. Ideas and thoughts would be very nice :-)

Thanks

Morten

I can suggest the old fashioned way - import the audio and sync it.
Then replace the camera audio in the timeline.

Yes I guess there is no other way :umm:

My totally out there dream would be some kind of EDL convert tool so:

Soundman uses days for reel so day1 is reel 001 and since REDs naming convention prints the date you need a tools that can replace the RED clips with the sound clips. So:

1) after edit you export an EDL
2) Tool replaces all the clips with the soundfiles in the EDL an makes a new one
3) import the new converted EDL into FCP.

...does that sound crazy?? :bye2:

You can do something like that using the PD series field recorders from Fostex, the Nagra VI, and Aaton's Cantar, using the Avid EDL output. I don't know if FCP can load and accurately used these EDLs, however that would somewhat closely resemble your idea.

If your RED and audio have matching Timecode, you might want to contact me directly - philip@intelligentassistance.com. We're currently beta testing a tool that will, in part, replace camera audio in an edited sequence with the multichannel audio from a separate system.

That'd be nice. Make sure it works with Sound Devices products.
