I am currently experiencing an error when using r2cf - any .R3D file that I try to transcode will start, it says "Converting blah-blah.r3d", but then on the next line it will say "error" and stop. It attempts to convert a second time, and this one also gives an "error" messages and that's it.

Would it be possible that the system's low specs are affecting this? I'm attempting to transcode everything on a much less powerful machine (Win XP, 2 GB RAM, 3.06 GHz Pentium) while editing on my real system (Vista, 4 GB RAM, Core Duo).

R2cf works perfectly fine on my Vista system, but I don't want to bog it down. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

run in the same error. I was converting with r2cf, stopped and used HD-Link for Z1 digitizing, after then the r2cf brought up this error, only a complete hardware reboot helped.

Not always but sometimes another error came up when I tried to convert only the 2nd part of a seperated clip.

Do you have the correct encoding license for the resolution you are requesting. For example a Product HD/ NEO HD license will only encode up to 1920x1080 in 4:2:2 not 4:4:4 or RAW. I see if the error report can be made more discriptive.

Alexx,
You should never have to manually convert the second part of a long R3D as the part are automatically connected into one AVI/MOV. However, if you want to do that anyway, just rename the second part so it is not in the sequence.

I'm running Prospect 4K, so I imagine the resolution would not be the problem.

And the only thing it gives me is the word "error", nothing more, which is kind of weird.

Try the latest

http://www.miscdata.com/red/R2CFv154.zip it has more error reporting. It should output r2cflog.txt within c:\program files\cineform\tools if something internal is wrong.

Does this tool only work with Prospect and 4k? I have a small project a local producer would like to edit in 720P in Vegas. I own Aspect HD currently. Is there a way for me to use the converter to go to 1K Cineform and give him those files?

Unsure, it really needs the deep pixel format of PHD and P4K (or NEO HD/4K.)
