View Full Version : REDRUSHES: Color Space and Output Gamma Space Question

My client shot a music video and we used RR to transcode all files to QT Prores HQ with full debayer. We used Look Source "Camera" and Color Space and Gamme Space "RedSPACE" for our 1080p output settings.

Everything rendered fine but the original QT proxies have a different gamma than the RedSpace colorspace and gamma space we used. The rendered clips look brighter than the original r3d.

I just did a test to render out using RedSpace color space and RedSpace gamma space to compare to the look source option for both gamma space and color space and it looks a little different but still brighter compared to the original r3d. What is the settings to use to best 'match' the original???

Here is a sample of what I am talking about:

The _H is the original QT proxy, the LS LS is the look source/look source for the color space and gamma space out of RR, and the RS RS is the color space and gamma space out of RR. As you can, the RS RS is the brightest one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Norm

That all looks about right to me. The QT reference (proxy) will always be a bit darker, and REDSPACE is always the brightest LUT.

The LS/LS looks pretty good. I imagine this is just matching the LUT to the meta data?

One question, how did you expose? Did you expose for REDSPACE or REC709 or RAW?

I didn't shoot this but they exposed using Redspace in-camera.

Should what he sees in-camera using Redspace reflect very closely the output of Redspace using RR with both Redspace colorspace and gamma space?

Just curious... Did you ever find an answer to this question Norm?

the best way is to test all of the permutation and combination, and choose you like best
