I just read the 'Christmas Presents' thread at DVXuser, and catched up on the dovetail thing Mr. Papert and Mikko was discussing.

Then I realized that I always figured that you could just pop the shoulder brace and the grips off the red-rail, and mount the whole thing on a tripod/grip, to maintain the position and connection of the magazine, battery, FF, lens etc. And use fixed adapter plates for my tripod/steadicam/crane etc.

Is this actually the case and is the brace mounted in a dovetail on the bottom of the red-rail?

Thanks.
Are you also building the accessories for the prototype(s) (So we can see some nice stills of the details :-) )

Anders, good point about keeping all the accessories with the camera. Allowing RED-rail to move between Steadi and sticks easily is important.

Scrounging...

Why wasn't a standard dovetail implemented?
