Hey I searched other forums but didn't really see a clear answer regarding what the show Knight Rider is shot on. I just watched an episode and there were a couple of action scenes where the footage looked video-ish. Does anybody know what camera it is shot on, and if it is Red then why does it look like this....is it due to the shutter, etc? I have seen a lot of footage shot on the Red and it looks great, but not a lot of high paced action(camera moving a lot)... is this a trait with the camera?

I believe it's the Panavision Genesis. I could be wrong, but I feel like I remember seeing some behind the scenes shots a while back and seeing the Genesis. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Only one question....where is Finner :usd:

Sony F23 and some smaller HD resolution rig cameras for certain shots.

I confirm Lexicon's answer. They do some effects stuff on film too.

They'd better used a DVX and taken the extra money to hire some writers. :)

Does anyone know what the standard for prime time series is right now? I know Dexter has been shot mostly on digital HD. But how about Battlestar, Terminator, Heroes, Nip/Tuck, Entourage, Lost, Fringe, Weeds... any inside knowledge?

Weeds is Sony F23.
BSG is Sony F900.
Dexter is a mix of film and HD.
Terminator is film according to IMDB. Can't find much information on how they are shooting that series but there have been two different DPs for the first season according to what I've read. The guys on this forum who work at Zoic would be able to tell you.
Can't find any information about Fringe since it's too new to have any articles about it's production.
Entourage is shot on Arricam LT 35mm film cameras.
Lost is shot on film.
Nip/Tuck is film.
Heroes is shot with Arriflex and Panavision film cameras.

I'll have to go ask the folks down the hall.. (Knight Rider's editorial dept). I was told by someone that Genesis HD was used for the pilot.

They seem to have solved the minimum-distance/speed issue for Turbo Boost now.

Still nothing was as cool as the napalm fire as a plot device to instigate clothing removal. :sarcasm:

...Have to agree with Benni. They should've hired some decent writers. I don't plan on watching again.

My condolences to the editors...:sarcasm:

Seriously: WTF?? I thought we were over with treating the audience like a bunch of morons you can sedate in front of the screen if you just inject enough of ye olde black computer magic and neckid skinny twens. :ranting2:

If you compare it to most of the other big budget shows right now it's a huge step backwards.

No offense to the tech staff though! I just wish all the money and energy was used for something with a bit more substance.

I've heard that.. one reason I have not popped over to their editorial.. (I fear bursting into laughter.. or if not that my eyes will betray me!)

Maybe you should bring them some painkillers, Sarah. I can't imagine what the material must look like that they cut OUT.
Oh yeah, and on behalf of all Germans I deeply apologize for the dark period when the Hoff was almost treated like a god here. Incredible.

Both the pilot and the series use the same setup. Multiple Sony F23 cameras for live action/VFX shooting and Iconix HD POV mini-cams for some interior car shots where the F23 isn't an option due to size. Oddly, there was a small shot in the pilot right after Sarah Graiman gets into KITT for the first time where the camera looks into the vehicle from the outside as it races through the campus quads that looks like it was shot on an HDV camera or some sort of DV camera with a faulty image sensor.

We can all only hope the Hoff himself makes a guest appearance. I must say though making KITT a ford is just sacrilege.

The Hoff DID make a guest appearance in the pilot a few months ago.

Although it's cool that they make inventive use of different digital camera systems, the results are... mixed.

Well, if Chevy had gotten the Camaro together for the show or let them use it, it would have been the perfect KITT as it even has space in the front that just about corresponds with the dimensions of the original KITT scanner. Hoff will return at some point but it has to be done just right. I think they could easily work him in with the planned return of KARR towards the end of the first season but they have already written all the first season scripts so we'll have to wait for the second season if it ever makes it that far.
