Whenever someone talks about new technologies allowing better movies to be made, I always think of this old fake news article from The Onion about the joys of HDTV:

Funny stuff. Ive always loved the onion.
Reminds me of when I was joking with a friend a year ago about releasing HDTV brand cosmetics. "Because im high definitely worth it.."

And this reminds me of my French chum who was lamenting that his mistress was burning money faster than his Ferrari burnt petrol - but then they are a lot of fun those - errmm Ferrari's . . .

Brilliant. I'm waiting for The Onion piece on the Virginia Tech killings. They did one on Columbine which was pure comedy.

Ummm... Okay.
You sound creeped out. Not to get off topic or political here but the piece on Columbine ridiculed the athorities and the high school culture in general for those shootings. It was funny but without being disrespectful to the victims. I'm curious what comedic angle The Onion will give to Virginia Tech, if at all.

Coming from the UK we have some of the cruedist comedy in the world, many places (Not discluding the US) don't get half of the comedy. Yet even to me the idea of writing a comedy piece about such tragic global news sounds a bit off. Though perhaps I'm being unfair and perhaps it is possible to use comedy as a means to putting across a political message about tragic incidents. I just fail to see how in some cases though.

In addition, recent big-budget movies like Independence Day and Eraser will soon be available in HDTV digital-cassette format, which manufacturers promise will offer an experience comparable to shaking your head and thinking, "This sucks," in an actual movie theater.
Oh man, that is funny! :bleh:

After a respectful gap following the tragic events of 9-11, The Onion figured out how to make some humorous posts about the event that were effective works of satire. For example:
Hijackers Surprised To Find Selves In Hell
'We Expected Eternal Paradise For This,' Say Suicide Bombers
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/38673
God Angrily Clarifies 'Don't Kill' Rule

And here's the Columbine piece:

Okay I guess I can see how they can handle heavy issues like this with humour, good stuff.

Hi Victor, thanks for posting the link - I do like the style of writing and so superficially I can get into the spirit of the text and well . . . ho ho ho.
The minor problem that I have with it; is that I'm being invited to believe some thing about a group of people whom I have never met. I have no doubt that most schools have a small group of 'jocks' who behave like complete twats, but the great majority of the other school members know this and have little to do with their rather insecure dependancy on the 'clique'.
I suppose my disquiet stems from the fact that I believe the average person is basically reasonably well balanced - that's my experience anyway and this writer would try and have me believe otherwise, if only to make me laugh. Hmmmm . . .
Having said that I laugh at all the stupid stereotyped jokes about Irishmen but that's usually because an Irishman has told me the joke in the first place! I hope you can see the difference ;)
