I wouldn't download Build 17 (beta) just yet. We have our B Cam on set right now which is Build 17, and for the first few days, we had nothing but issues with it.

If your camera was shipped Build 16, stick with it for another few weeks, if not months...

What issues?

What build is on your A camera?

Why are you running two different builds on the same shoot?

I've found no problems whatsoever with Build 17...

Good shooting and best regards,

I am also curious as to what types of issues you are experiencing Suppatime. Build 17 is probably the most stable beta build I have seen, I'm not encouraging anyone to use it if they are not comfortable but the fact is we have only released one version of 17 thus far and there is reason for that.

Hello guys:

Build 17 will not jam-sync with a Build 16 RED. I'm using the 5-pin to BNC LEMO cable.

Also, when shooting to the drives, "B" Camera decides suddenly (and without a disruption in power) that it wants to become "A" Camera for 7 takes, then switch itself back. It also doesn't take well to the changing of the Reel # via Change->Reel #->Format.

Lastly, sometimes the camera won't even boot up if the EVF and LCD are both plugged in. Strange issues, and we're in a rather harsh environment (namely dust and high temperatures).

I'm following the Operations Guide for Build 16;

B Camera (Build 17) to LEMO to BNC and that BNC to LEMO, going into the TIMECODE submenu and selecting Jam Sync on A Camera (Build 16).

I also wasn't sure if in the Guide I needed to reset other parameters to jam sync, but when they did "sync", they were still off by 14 seconds, despite identical internal clocks.

You trying to sync two cameras then? What about video lock?

I was trying to sync the cameras together; I tried it both ways, Build 17 to Build 16 and vice-versa.

I didn'g get a chance to use the Genlock because there's a breakout box over it for use with regular-sized HD-SDI BNCs. Shouldn't it still just work with the LEMO? Is there another way to set one camera as Master and the other as Slave than selecting Jam-Sync? I had asked production to get an external unit, but as we're in the middle of nowhere, it wasn't exactly an option.

The ET breakout and the SIM breakout both expose the Genlock port as well - have you got a homebrew one?

You mention two BNC-to-LEMO cables - is one an "in" and one an "out" adapter? The 5 pin LEMO is both an in and out and you'll need one of each cable to make it work.

No, it is the Element Technica one; when I was trying to sync, however, it was being blocked by an array of cables on our jib.

They're two Sound Devices XL-LB2's, with both in and out BNCs on each. You can see them here:

And yes, I had them plugged in correctly for the T/C In and T/C Out.
