It's called the "image orthicon tube". Very high-tech. 8K and beyond!

Hi all,is this possible...

No.

Even our eyes have discreet photoreceptors (cones and rods) arranged in an array.

Yes, but conceptually, the image is still quantisised by the scanning frequency, which would be equivalent of being quantisised with pixel array or photosites. I suppose the only difference is that scanning frequency (and the resolution) can be changed "on the fly".

One drawback of such system is stability at very high scanning frequencies. Also, sensitivity would be extremely difficult to achieve.

Our eyes have photosensors (say pixels) and therefore are theoretically (and practically) capable of detecting a single photon. They are also very high resolutuion. The orthicon (scanning) approach would need much lower resolutions to be stable and much lower sensitivities to be quantisised to be effective.

Simply put, I think pixel (photosite) array is the right one :)

Sounds like Single Pixel Camera?
