I assume that Avid had signed the SDK license some time ago... I think this press release was just issued because a couple of other companies have issues similar releases, and people were assuming Avid's silence meant they weren't getting on board.
I have an SDK license too, but I haven't put out any press releases.

We signed the SDK a few weeks back. We announced the signing of the SDK as part of a market response to do so -
