Hi all,

As I'm getting shipped right now, and I read recently from Red that they had to have new CF Modules updated to accomodate the new 16Gb CF cards, I was wondering when they would be available. Someone said "The CF module will be shipped not long after when the 16GB cards are available and we will be in contact when that is ready."

Anyone just got their camera now? Do you have the new CF? Should I wait? If so, how long?

It's a bit like the new audio board :) "What, When, Where???"... I asked Red already, but I don't to burden them and maybe someone in my situation has experienced thiose questions. Thanks.

So I got Red on the phone and here is the real story. CF module WON'T CHANGE... There is not a new one coming: as soon as you order 16Gb CF cards when they are ready, Red will send you a small piece that will accept with the new 16Gb CF cards. Then you install this piece yourself in the CF module and there you go, 8, 16, etc... It's just a piece to swap/adapt and your module is brand new... I guess the only difference is that when this is ready, new cameras will be shipped with it already in the CF module...

Correct, Lewis. If you already have your RED ONE, when your first order of 16 GB CF CARDS ships, they will come with a new CF reader/writer for you to install in your CF module. Very simple swap - one Allen key and seven bolts.

Once we start shipping cameras with the 16 GB CF CARD-friendly reader/writers, we'll post on here.

Brent - how about if you're holding off on 16Gb cards for now, due to cost, but you'd like to have the ability to use them with your camera (say, by renting them). Is it possible to get the new CF reader solo?

I'm curious about this too, I rent my body out sometimes and some companies already have 16GB cards. For them to rent my Body I need the new CF Module.

You don't need a "new" CF module. It's a little piece you put in it to allow it to accept 18Gb cards. Maybe you could ask Red to just sell/send you the small piece to make the modification. Then your cam could use both cards. It's an easy mod you can make yourself...

Interesting… what kind of little piece your are talking about? Have you done the modification by your self?

No as I am not using the 16Gb yet, but I had that question sorted out with Red since I got my camera recently, and tought I might "hold" my order for the "new 16Gb CF Module" instead... But there isn't such a thing, it's the same module, they only give you that small part when you order 16Gb cards, and it's a quick DIY modification, an Allen key and voilà... Any ship dates in mind yet for the 16GB cards/reader?

Thanks

I was in the Red Store a month ago, the new module would be shipped free of charge So I was told...

Whether its a small piece or a new module, I was told it was free, and I didn't need to purchase any 16GB cards to get it.
