Hi I have a Mac Pro 8 core, 2gb ram, nvidia 8800.
I've been testing out the new Quicktime "Half Standard" decoding mode and it doesn't seem to be any faster than "Half High".
I'm playing the _H quicktime reference of a 4k .r3d file and Quicktime reports a playback rate of 13fps no matter which decode setting I use. I also looked at the CPU and disk usage they are the same on both decoders. the CPU usage sits at around 30% and the disk usage is 30MB/s.
I'm not sure why it's only getting 13fps when playing back the 1k reference I get full 25fps and it has pretty much the same CPU usage. I would have though the player would use the other 70% of CPU and playback at 25fps.
Anyone have any idea why:
1) the 2k playback isn't running at 25fps even though it has loads of unused processor power.
2) the new "half high" doesn't appear to use less cpu.
Thanks
-Andrew
