I have been so happy with the Red One image, I can't imagine what Red will do to make it better.
What will the new Epic have to do in order for you to make the $22,000 upgrade?
For me, it's all about the Dynamic Range. Improve that by 3 stops and I'm sold.

an arri style pin on the bottom,
SD Out
power lock for the Powerbutton
standy modus
hotswap possibility
different monitoring options for evf lcd hdsi out
(perfect would be:
evf without menus and raw view
lcd with menues and edgehighlight
hdsdi out: 1080p with redspace
direct recording through hdsdi to RED RAY (this would be awesome, but redray will be a player only i guess)
100-200 fps at 4k
some postwishes:
a redlog to lin LUT for Color or a redlog documentation
r3d plugin like adobes for all NLE`s......if fcp gets updated of course

- more dynamic range
- less noise
- less compression
- smaller form factor
- less weight
- faster start up
- cooler operation
- longer battery life
- standby mode
- 1:1 pixel zoom
- 2k or 1080 scaled recording

Everything!!!
Larger sensor
Speed
Less compression
Small package (size is everything  )
and hopefully ergonomics :innocent:

- lighter
- better ergonomics
- more fps full sensor (100 would be great)
- faster booting
- higher ASA (800)
- better DR in the realm of negative (11-12 usable stops)
- less noise
And last but not least I would love to see a S16 3K RAW mode (with approx. 5K at S35 that will be possible), great for docs.

For me...
* Smaller, lighter package that is more refined and evolved with better ergonomics.
* Higher resolution and frame rates
That pretty much sums it up... Arguments for better DR are valid I suppose, as EPIC will provide that vs. the RED One at its release. However, the RED One will see such benefits after the release of EPIC through a sensor upgrade option. The EPIC will be the flagship S35MM camera that will always have superior features to the RED One at a premium price. So if it fits in the budget, I'm there.

In no particular order:
A more robust (leaning on over engineered) camera
The ability to film at 100fps at full rez (and hopefully 150fps at quad HD or 4k)
Size/weight reduction
Dynamic range increase (if they add more than a stop I hope we move to 14bit and slightly less compression)
Faster bootup time
The trade up offer to still stand?

In terms of Dynamic Range, I think Jim has said that Red One will get a sensor upgrade that will increase dynamic range. I assume this means putting Monstro (Epic's style of sensor) into Red One. I don't think DR will be an issue.
Assuming there is no change in sensor size, increased resolution & framerates will be major factors in Epic's favor (essentially, it will have a super-super computer onboard), not to mention the fact that Epic, generally speaking, will probably be geared toward 100% professional shooters, without any compromises.
One thing that is a little odd to think about, though, is this: As long as Red One is getting a sensor upgrade next year, why not increase its resolution to 5K? The natural progression of digital camera technology is toward more resolution at cheaper prices. Why go through all the trouble of a sensor upgrade and still keep Red One redlined at 4K or 4.5K? If the processor is going to be replaced, why not up the juice on it so Red One can shoot 60fps onboard in REDCODE RAW?
For all we know, those thing might happen.
I think they are just so busy now with Epic, DSMC, etc, that Red One's upgrade hasn't gotten all their attention just yet.
Another bonus to Epic is that in terms of renting the camera out to productions, Epic will probably be more rentable, at a higher daily rate. It will be the gold standard in cinema.

You better start working on that imagination of yours!

Everything mentioned sounds good to me, but what I'm really looking forward to all the unexpected surprises that I'm sure that they are working on. Also integration with DSMC technology...

1. Design mistakes learnt from Red One applied to Epic
2. Computer technology advanced 1.5 years!
3. Less compromise based on making it work for 17.5K
4. Dynamic Range increase?
5. 100+ fps @ 4K?
6. Full credit to trade up.
7. Must have newest and shiniest toy.

Hold yer horses, who says Epic will be $22k more? Jim told us to forget all of that. It might be $30k more, it might have dropped to $12k more. I'm banking on the latter.
If it's lighter than a 747. Did some solo shooting with Red yesterday. My shoulder really hurts.

I think what it will take to make the leap, will depend a great deal on, how much more.
There are some great suggestions in this thread.

Also integration with DSMC technology...
Personally I hope not. My filmcamera is to be used for what it's suppose to be for...filmwork. If I want stills I have my stills camera... and/or you can use RA or RC on the set for it.
I rather have more interesting motion options for the camera then waste time with still options.
edit: unless it's, of course, stop motion/ time lapse related - so in a way I take it back hahaha

Everyone making income from their Red One better save up the payment receipts so you have something to show to finance companies or banks when it comes time to upgrade to Epic. :gun:

in addition to all of the above, and again: ability to shoot at night without the hell of a noise => higher ISO
to me, the biggest problem is noise in shadows.
and again, thanks for the dream-cam we already have!

Just the 100 fps at full resolution would justify the extra cost for me.

Ergonomics, standard power outputs/accessories, more dynamic range, less noise, higher frame rates without cropping, FULL SIZE four-perforation sensor, ergonomics.
I'll probably get one anyway... but those sure would be nice.
A built-in composite signal would be nice as well...

AES digital audio input (4 tracks) port. . . unless, of course, it already has been announced that it will have that little feature. Yeah, and more dynamic range and less noise. . . I HATE noise.

Why would I want a lighter, much better, and more professional camera?
Because it will make me coffee.....
