Chaps,

When Red announced that Redcine would only run on Intel Macs I was preparing to trade in my G5 Quad and buy new. With FCP Studio 2 announcements however, I am I right in thinking that I could just edit straight away in FCP without transcoding? Do I need redcine to do that or is it just a matter of plugging and importing and letting FCP do it's proxy thing? Will I still need to conform it back in Redcine? (For the time being assume I'll finish at 1080/2K and go elsewhere if I need a 4K filmout).

Obviously I wouldn't want to forgo the benefits of Redcine for ever, but just until I can get the cash for the new mac...

I know it's early workflow days - just trying to sort my equipment budget. Can anyone clear this one up for me?

Cheers, confusedly,

Jeff Brown

REDCINE requires an Intel Mac.

Some workflows will allow you to bypass REDCINE and go directly to FCP... But I still think the codec support within FCP for REDCODE is Intel only. At least that's what Ted said in a couple of the NAB interviews. Do a search and watch them.

Mike Curtis also said in his NAB workflow presentation that REDCODE support in FCP would be Intel only. Time to replace my ageing G5!

Thanks chaps. I suppose it was too good to be true.

Yeah, makes sense though... No reason to pour more resources into a dead platform. I've got a couple G5 quads I need to unload too. :/
