Managed to get my hands on one of the three protos of the new Angenieux Optimo Rouge 30-80mm for 24 hours - taking it out on a shoot with us tomorrow for some side-by-sides - hopefully post frames this weekend -
mechanics on this lens are super impressive - T2.8 - 4.2 lbs - 114mm front diam. - S35 Full 31.1 mm diag - MOD 2' - I was told initial orders start to ship within a few weeks - they are obviously back-ordered - ours are slated for Jan. delivery -

Nice looking lens (Though the red rings looks a little to pink to me).
I'd love to see how this lens compares to the RED 18-85 as well as Angenieux's 28-76.

RED PRO 18-85 is fantastic - but you won't fly it on a steadicam. $20K for this lens is cheap IMO.

And with those red rings, any AC who mistakenly puts it on a film camera and ruins the mirror shutter will have no excuse! :)
Mark, report back after the job, please.
Cheers,
Harry

This lens can only be used on cameras without a shutter, correct?
Looking forward to your review Mark...

I have wondered about the specs on this lens. Seems like an odd choice
of focal lengths doesn't it? Is this just a rework for digital of an existing lens?

probably the 28-76 which is over twice as much. There is also a 16-45mm coming. With any luck we might see a 10-1 Rouge too (This is not a rumor just a wish).

Angenieux has made another amazing lens. The quality is right on par with the 28-70mm. For a fraction of the price.
If you want to know specifics, just ask.
There is too much to list all the specs.

Hi
We're in the process of ordering both. Unfortunately we were unable to make IBC so we haven't seen them. There was talk of an aperture ramp nearer the end of the focal length range and if this is the case what are we talking... 1/4 a stop?
