Thats not a complain about RED, more about FedEX.
We got the mail for or HK based RED.
Iam a little wondering of about 600 US$ shipment costs to HongKong.
We got several product from the US. Normally its less than 300 US$ by UPS prior service ( 5 days) eg 25kg; insurance about 25000 US$.
SO I have 3 questions
1.Did anybody ship with alternate outside the US
2. Maybe people out of the US poste their shipment costs.
3. If not avoid the cost I consider to use the time to visit some friends s in LA, which I planned original in December
I know we could not pic up the red on RED place , but is it possible to send it to other location inside the US.
4 And if do so are there any problems to bring it out of the US.
In HK we are in the looky situation that we do not have cstomes or VAT. So import is free.

Hi,

Pretty much the same as I paid to get it to Sydney Australia. Fed Ex is the company RED chose and there aren't any other options. They can't ship some items one way and others another way.

If you were to get the camera or ship it within California, you would pay 8% CA state tax, which would be more than $600!

You could have it sent to another state in the U.S., but then you would either have to go there to pick it up, or have it shipped back somewhere.

The end result is you will end up paying close to $600 anyway or inconvenience friends.

My RED arrived as two very large boxes, so don't underestimate what is being sent here. It's not like a video deck or other small piece of gear.

I would just pay the $600 as part of the overall cost. Remember we are saving tens of thousands here and part of the reason RED can exist is because they keep things simple. Shipping is part of that.

Same to the UK via Fedex.

I try to use DHL from the US to UK where I can. Last week I had a consignment fro CA to the UK, about 2 pounds in weight $70 ordered on Friday delivered Monday.

UPS charged me $700+ when I sent the base production pack+batteries (minus camera and lens) to Ghana. They should be wearing masks at the local UPS 'store'.

If you are based in Sweden, Denmark or Norway, you can try http://jetcarrier.com/ to save some shipping costs. Personally, I would not try to save money on the camera delivery, but on future bits and pieces I am likely to use their services.

i HATE Fed Ex. the most stressful thing about being a Red owner is having to deal with Fed Ex.

Yep. Gone through all that this afternoon, really annoying. Paid my Duty, had a quibble with the amount, they didnt get back to me, i phoned 4 times and nothing, paid before 4pm so it will be her tomorrow and nothing, tracking still has it where it is. Hey ho. So we will see.

The shipping costs for me were very reasonable actually, managed to get them down, although they did slap a £70 admin fee on it this end.

Andrew.

FedEx work very good to Sweden, very nice and helpful people. Newer had any problem. UPS on the other hand are crazy, and more expensive.
