I've been shooting a music video that last couple of days and have experienced a dozen or more random shutdowns. Basically the camera just powers down. It boots back up again with no problem and the footage hasn't been affected.
Has anyone experienced this?

Yes,

Wiggle the battery and see if it shuts the camera down... If so then you have a worn out Battery Plate, where the V in the mount is. I've seen this pretty often believe it or not. I would just send it back to the Rental house for another one.

I think Red are planning on replacing the pins on the older battery plates when cameras come in for the audio board upgrade. If you can't wait till then someone showed me a temporary emergency do-it-if-you-dare-on-your-head-be-it DIY solution which involved inserting a thin implement (something like a jeweler's screwdriver) into the pins on the battery plate and very gently wiggling it about to create a bit more width. Don't go crazy though, try it bit by bit and see if you have any improvement by wiggling the battery around on the plate and seeing if the power still cuts out. This isn't a permanent fix but if you're lucky it might last long enough till your camera goes back to Red for new pins (make sure you send your battery plate too!)
