That's cool. It's exciting to have place of our very own. It's like seeing Annette on the Mickey Mouse Club for the first time. Does that give away my age?
I have NO idea what DVX is.

Just wanted to join in on the festivities! Couldn't register my name from DVXUser (Oz) since three or more characters were required, so I changed it. I think it befits this new forum better anyway.
In some cultures new names are often bestowed on a person when he or she moves from one state of being to another. For example, from childhood to adulthood, when someone accomplishes something difficult or great, or for marriage.
Anyway, here's to a new beginning in name, forum, and filmmaking for the Red community!

Hey, don't knock the DVX! She was a brave explorer in uncharted territory (24p at affordable prices), and has served many of us well. ;)
That said, I'm jumping straight from a DVX to a RED, with nothing in between! The RED will shoot my next feature, and the DVX will shoot the "Making-of" featurette.

The DVX is a super camera, and it will still have a place in my workflow for several reasons.
1. Cheap to rent (so ultra-low-budgets have an option)
2. Dead easy workflow (no fancy lenses, shoots to tape for archive)
3. I can take it anywhere (and worry much less about the risk of failure, expense, et cetera)

Just wanted to say g'day as I step through the front door of our new home :)
And no, the location to the left isn't a mistake, I'm moving to Tokyo in 10 days to live and will be getting my Red One sent there instead of Sydney, Australia!!
I will be filming the final part of my short film robot trilogy there late next year and doing it on the Red One, so I expect it's going to look amazing!!
I'm also fervently hoping that there will be a lot of Japanese filmmakers who want to hire out my baby next year to help cover my startup costs, though given that NO reservations appear to have made it to Japan it looks like that won't be too much of a problem... :D
We're in the third trimester now folks and things are getting exciting!! Here's to a trouble free birth for "Spike", may it lead the way into a new age of affordable cinema filmmaking!
Cheers!

Red is extremely generous as it is...they can't make every incentive retroactive, or people will start demanding even more. Nothing's ever good enough for a lot of customers.
I think that's a pretty unfair view for early adopters who are essentially penalized, for being the early adopters that helped make Red what it is today.
As with any company or product, the user base gets furious when the price drops and it only extends to new customers, and the loyal base gets punched in the nuts. It doesn't mean we're ungrateful, we just want the same deal as the people who didn't jump in and who were still on the fence about these Red products. Hell, even Apple, of all companies, offered 17% discounts/refund to the early adopters of the iPhone after it dropped $200 a couple months after its release.
I might be the only one vocalizing this on this forum, but I'm certainly not alone in my frustration with this. Especially on the set I'm writing from, with a company owned by two directors who bought a couple of rockets recently, who would be getting the shaft on this deal as well for their cameras.
Simply put, it cost us about $1700 (17%) to be early adopters with the Rocket. That sucks, and our frustration should be understandable. Doesn't mean we're not going to keep buying red products, or we're ungrateful for lots of other things, just means this particular deal sucks for us.
Thanks.
