Hey guys. Has anybody worked with a lens like this on the RED?: http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/18145/pce-nikkor-24mm-lens/

Will it create images like this?: http://www.pollychandler.com/gallery/

What are the drawbacks of using something like this on moving images? I've never heard of this technique until today and I'm very intrigued by the effect.

Nevermind. I used the search function and found my answers. Sorry...

I used to have the earlier version, which was 85mm.I bought it mainly for studio product still shots, but also used it for close up full face beauty.
Eye lashes in focus everything else out,I'm sure you know the kind of stuff.
It wont give you quite the extreme effect that Polly Chandler achieves.
You really need to have both lens and back tilt sometimes combined with swing to get this.
I haven't tried any of this with a Red yet,but I would expect it to be very difficult to control.
I've just bought a swing and tilt bellows set by Novoflex for macro use with my Red,but they also do some lens heads which will allow you to focus at infinity.

Hi Julio,

Please check out these links, this the direction that I will be going... Though I do have a lens baby, this product is so much more...

http://www.cambo.com/

Click on Cambo X2-PRO under featured products. I think you will appreciate the video breakdown of their system.

Also, check out this excellent thread started by Mr, Mick Van Rossum.

Hope this helps Julio.

The 85 works great, the 24mm nikon TS wouldn't allow me to change the stop when it wasn't mounted to the Nikon body. You can set the stop on the dslr, then mount it to the red but it didn't work the same way as the 85. This may be a problem with this particular lens that I have, maybe someone can back me up on this.
Also look at the hartblei super-rotator 80mm - a lot cheaper and a fun lens. Otherwise, get a lensbaby.

Shane.

Can you elaborate more on 24mm T/S Nikon lens problem? Is this new lens or old lens. Whole new set of T/S lens 24,45,85mm was developed by Nikon.
I know old 85mm T/S Nikon works fine, I have one. Are you saying new 24mm and 45mm T/S are not analog aperture?

The major drawback if you're tilting is that followfocus gets much, much harder as it's very difficult to mount a normal followfocus.

Here's some examples with a PL-mount tilt/shift system:

and "Kamikaze"

Shot on #242 with tilt/shift lenses (and a bit of Iconix HD for the POV stuff).

It's a new lens that belongs to a friend. The button that you press to change from electronic iris to manual does not pop up like it does on the 85. I want to stress that this may be that this particular lens is broken but it works fine on the dslr. The lens does have an iris ring, I just haven't been able to control it off the camera.

Sice IBC I have been busy to get back to Cambo to finalize the X4 (as they call t right now) So far I've come to the conclusion that if you want to go budget the Nikon/ Mamiya combo is the way to go. A PL version is possible but it won't get you infinity with medium size lenses (like mamiya 645 or Hasselblad). If you want to go PL you have to invest in other lenses like the Schneider Digitar 28 for example. I will try to convince the Cambo guys to change the focus knob into an Arri style follow focus knob. Here are some examples I shot last week in Rotterdam with a Mamiya 35mm (which I picked up for 200 dollars) and a 150mm Mamiya 3.5 using the Nikon mount on my Red.

I have loaned out pro service lenses 24mmT/S PC and 45mmT/S PC from Nikon Canada to test out and indeed it is electronic aperture and stays wide open and can not stop down. However you can put on Nikon Body set f stop on your choice on manual mode and remove the lens. F stop will remain at your choice f stop. Yes it is pain to change f stop but usable. Effect I 'm looking for is mostly about select focus and I think I can live with this pain. (meaning using it mostly wide open)

Not to piss on anyone's parade, but wasn't the T/S suppose to be used mainly in horizontal planes and especially to keep angled facades in focus? I find it extremely distracting to see it used horizontally and to put things out of focus...

Maybe is just me... :)

PS: I have been using it for some time now, but never in the ways I have seen it here and in the links...
