Yeah, they had the decimal point wrong in the „1.5 million - that should be „15 million.

That thing looks like something out of Dr. Who. By the time it's embraced, someone will make a similar unit size of a phone book.

YouŽd be lucky to get the xenon lamp for 12K - thatŽd be way, way cheaper than classical film-based projectors which come at 30K, I think

Yes the sony 4k is definitely a beast of a projector(see below, toked this at NAB) but its little brother for now is doing just fine in my main room.

The Sony Pearl is absolutely great, projected on a 133" Hi Def Grey, Draper Motorized screen, it delivers images absolutely stunning, was just watching a Blu-Ray DVD of the series Planet Earth, How.

So do not disper of the 100k plus of the big monster, you can always get the litle one.

There's no reason digital projectors shouldn't be cheaper than film projectors... eventually. Certainly if you include maintenance costs. They don't have all those fiddly moving parts.

Ironically that's what'll make them more expensive. Because they have less things to go wrong with them there is less chance of Sony making their money back through spares and repairs. As such they offset the costs in the purchase price.

If RED (or anyone else) can make a 4K projector under $30K that can throw enough light onto 30ft-40ft screen - that can serve files off of a firewire drive - things are going to get VERY interesting VERY fast ... oh ... I forgot ... things already got INTERESTING ....
