Good Day Everyone,

Since there are many cinematographers on this site I thought it would be a good place to ask... does anyone have an opinion on what may be the smallest possible HD camera that would yield the best possible results?

I want to shoot an experimental project for which I would like to have a camera the size of a consumer camera, with an ability to connect good lenses to it. I need to be able to shoot at night too. the basics of 24 fps and a wide screen are essential. I need to be able to shoot with as minimal as possible a crew - we would need to be able to run around with this camera very fast from setup to setup, with only one assistant - so I'm basically looking for the best possible look from a consumer-sized camera, I guess.

The image would be treated very heavily with color later and would be mostly black and white. I don't need an AMAZING picture, but I would love it to be as good as possible, of course.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!
David

Based on the limited info you provided I vote for Sony EX1 or EX3 but if you need smaller the Canon HV20/30 or the new models are good options too. I'm mentioning currently available cameras here... there are other options in the horizon.

If its Prosumer, Canon HF10/or HF100 or Panasonic SD9. Though neither have interchangeable lenses. Both have user unfriendly controls but they are very small and for what they are create a good (relatively speaking that is) image.. This kit changes every 5 minuites or so is likely to be out of date by the time I've sent this ail. If your in to professional devices your budget will increase by a factor of 10 or more.
