Relink issue

Hi,
Sorry if this has been discussed before. If so please post a link to the thread and I'll shut up :-)

I've set up an avid project with a bunch of quicktimes (from redrushes)
and need to use autosync to get the wav's from the sounddevice synced up.

As the quicktimes was batch imported with an ALE containing the timecode I won't be able to relink the video after unlinking and modifying, will I?
Any solutions to this (theoretical, as i am not in front of an avid right now) problem?
can i relink using filenames instead of tapenames/timecodes or other unique identifiers only contained in the ALE and not the quicktime itself.

Is there not a common timecode somewhere between the picture and sound?

Yes camera was jammed to the sounddevice, but do the mediafiles created by avid from the quicktimes have the TC from the ALE in it? as I feared I couldn't relink after unlinking and modifying.

You need to import the ALE first, then merge the QT's into those clips and it will have all the metadata you need to sync. Is this not what you are doing?

That's exactly what I am doing. QT's from redrushes, ALE from Metacheater. Then Unlink, modify, set tracks, relink.
I don't know what I might be doing wrong here.

Why are you relinking, modify, relink? Modify before you import the QT.

Ofcourse. That makes sense.
Problem is the vast quantities of media already imported, as I didn't think It would be a problem relinking.

I'm a bit lost.. this is Avid on Mac taking QT in yes not Pc?

You can always merge a new ALE file into those existing master clips and will subclip out V or A1 or A2, etc. That may be another solution.
