I believe they stopped giving 'reservation' numbers. What you received was a general purpose order confirmation as you would receive from any other on-line retailer.

That's correct. No way the orders would only be in the hundreds of millions. You should see how many china ordered!

Hey JL,

Any word on a ballpark of how many sold after NAB?

Hello all, I ordered our first red cam yesterday afternoon, and I'm also waiting for confirmation. Is it true that shipping dates for red after NAB will be Dec 2007 / Jan 2008. I have ordered the camera for the DP on a Canadian series called "Corner Gas" and he is chomping on the bit to test it for use on this show. In Canada it is quite a large series, and has recently been broadcast in the US.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks
Colin

You should get your confirmation probably somewhere next week. We are still processing all the orders we got in during NAB.

I would expect your camera to be delivered early 2008.

So, the Red is heading to Dog River. What are you shooting on right now? Have you spoken to your post guys about this? I'm presuming you'll just do an HD workflow for a show like that, but I'm curious about how quickly RED can integrate into the traditional broadcast industry. (CBC will probably ban it altogether as statanic technology and continue buying overpriced Sony gear.)

Hey Samscad, just to be clear, there is no plan, or guarantee that this camera will be used in an episode. At this point the DP wants to test it as soon as possible; get it in the field, shoot some footage, and test the workflow. The post house hasn't been contacted because at this point it's only being tested from the point of view of the DP.

:-) - but you never know.

The show is shot super 16 is finished in 1080p on FCP systems, so a transition to using the Red Cam in place of 16mm could be quite quick.
But since we won't be able to get the camera until 2008, we have some time :-)

cheers

Ah ha! So he just wants to play! And who can blame him.

Super 16? I guess it's all those hard light exteriors. Too bad we have to wait so long. I'd love to start doing back to back tests with super 16 and 35.

We've been shooting with the HVX and the Redrock adapter and I have to say, I think it looks as good as 16mm. Though it doesn't handle the darks or the high contrast quite as well, but for the price point it's astounding. I love working with 35mm lenses again. I think for me, even if the Red did not quite measure up to some other formats it would be worth it just to be using 35mm lenses.

The show is doing really well, kudos to Brent Butt & Vérité for producing such a great show right here in Saskatchewan. It's not the only great peice of work coming out of our small province, check out the SaskFilm website if your so inclined!

It'd be great if they'd show a projection in 4K. Whoa, seeing Corner Gas in 4K. That'd be something.
